Turwaithiel's scream pierced through the silent night. Her hands gripped the blanket as her sweat drenched the sheets. She could not seem to get enough oxygen inside her lungs.

The moon peered through her open window as a cold breeze passed by. She lifted the sheets off her, her trembling legs carrying her towards the balcony. She stared at her surroundings. She was safe. She was home. She was no longer in Gundabad and yet her heart and mind seemed to think otherwise. She toyed with the necklace hanging on her neck, her fingers tracing the pattern of the leaf that hanged there. It was a gift, from the one she had left behind and vowed to forget. Legolas. His name was whispered in her head at times like these. Times when she doubted her choices and plans and then she would remember. Remember that horrid day.

It was her fault. If only she had not ventured out, she would not have been captured. If only she knew how to defend herself, Tauriel would probably be still alive. Her blood was in her hands and she could not look at Legolas without the guilt. She had seen him. She had seen the way he crumbled and fell as she died. He had seen the devastation in his eyes. It was all her fault.

A surge of determination over powered her as she turned around swiftly and entered her dimly lit room. She was going to leave. Tonight.

She quickly packed a few of her things, shoving them into the bag. She had already dressed for her departure. She had only hoped she would evade Lord Elrond's sight. She had planned it out well, there was no turning back. She slid a knife inside her boot and two daggers hung on each side of her waist. She took her bow, one she had recently learned how to use and hung it across her shoulders. She took a quiver of arrows next, with no notion of stopping or doubting her plans.

She had to leave. She had to go somewhere far, where her fears could not chase her. She stepped quietly out of her room. The room she had spent her entire life in, behind books and songs. She left before she could change her mind. She walked quietly through the halls, becoming one of the shadows. She was small and was therefore easily concealed. She had managed to get her way to her exit without getting caught. She had discovered this tunnel when she was little, it lead directly out into the mountains that bordered Rivendell. She did not know if Lord Elrond knew of it but there was no stopping now. She moved swiftly and moments later she was free.

She pulled on her bag and checked if she had all her weapons. She did not look back, for looking back could only lead to her change of thought. She marched on, through the stony path. Further and further away from the place she could home.
