I rolled over in my bed and imagined seeing Rena there beside me. Her hair sprawled across the pillows, her light brown eyes glimmering as she shunned out the sun.
I thought about how badly I wanted her, not her body. Her. Her mind, her intellect, her conversations, and yeah... Her body. But I could wait for that.
I need her in my life. She's amazing. I texted her GoodMorning and awaited her reply, knowing she was probably still sleep.
I rolled out of bed and went into the attached bathroom. I undressed and took a hot shower. I kept thinking about the way she tensed at the presence of Cameron, even mentioning him last night made her tense in her sleep. I wanted to know why, but I knew she'd tell me when she was ready...
It's 2:07 and I am sitting in Rena's kitchen with her mom. She was telling me about Cameron and I was only getting more pissed by the second. He was a pig to her, he broke her. Rena returned and look ready to go.
"Thank you for telling me, I can assure you; I'd never treat her that way. Ever. I think we should get going." Her mom nodded and hugged me. I took Rena's hand and led her to my car. She stood back and allowed me to open her door.
When she had buckled herself in I closed the door and got in. "Are you Ok?" Her small voice sounding smaller than usual. I unclenched my jaw.
"Yeah, Love. I'm fine," I lied. "I was going to tell you. I promise I was... I just didn't know how." She sounded like she was crying but when I looked at her she wasn't. She looked ashamed,
I took her hand in mine and squeezed it. "It's fine. I understand. We all have stories that we don't share. I'm just sorry that he did that to you. You deserve so much more." My eyes drifted to hers with every other word I said. She smiled,
"Like you?" She asked, her attention was focused outside of the window. "What do you mean?" "You said I deserve so much more, are you that so much more?" She asked, her tone serious.
I didn't know how to answer, she was confusing me. We had agreed to take it slow, but she wanted me to answer that question. I could feel her staring at the side of my head. She slowly pulled her hand away and put it in her lap.
"I didn't mean to-" "No, it's my fault. Sorry, I just... I don't know. Just drop it." I huffed, I didn't know what to say to make her feel better. "You look amazing."
She mumbled a thanks and played with her hair. "I do like you... A lot. But-" she laughed, "Can you take me back home?" I looked at her, stunned. "What? Why?" She didn't even look at me. "I just want to go home."
"No you don't. You were excited earlier and now you want to go home before we even get there!" Her hands gripped her hair and she let out a deep breath,
"Fine, you're right. I don't want to go through this again! I don't want to be around someone who can't decipher the feelings they have for me. I don't want to be used and thrown to the side... This is why I didn't want to tell you about Cameron. It made me so irrational."
I pulled into a random parking lot and turned to see her face. "You're right," she finally looked up. "That is irrational. Rena, I like you a lot. BUT you said you want to take things slow, I'm just trying to respect that."
She smiled. "I feel stupid," "Good." I laughed, obviously joking. She looped her arms around my neck and pressed her forehead to mine. "Thank you. I promise I'm not always like this."
I pressed my lips against hers and she smiled, "I hate seeing you upset. We should get going before we end up late." She nodded and let me go, kissing me one last time.
