That night, Jack went back to the estate to see Belle, which he was not looking forward to. He let out a frustrated sigh as he headed in the usual secret way, knowing he was in for hell.

Belle's room was cluttered as usual, and she lay on her couch, clearly still angry with him.

"Belle.." he said, trying to start off gently.

"Go away, Jack." She sighed,

"Belle, please listen to me," he said, still trying to keep his voice calm.

"I'm not interested in listening!"

Jack sighed. "Will you just stop for a moment so I can explain!" he insisted, frowning deeply at his fiancée.

"Fine." She puffed,

Jack let out a relieved sigh and ran a hand through his hair. "I... know you have every right to be angry, but. You have to believe me when I say I never thought... I never thought I'd see Evie again,"

"hummm... Seems convenient that just as you're starting to settle, your old fiancé arrives."

"How many times must I tell you, it's not like that. I had no idea she was here," he insisted. "This whole situation... is not what you think it is," he explained, "You really think I'd willingly go and see my ex fiancé and... cheat on you the moment she comes back into my life?"

"You've been with lots of women, how am I to know I'm not just another link on the chain?"

Jack groaned out of frustration. "Because when I was with those other women, they didn't mean anything, it was meaningless for god knows how long for me. They were nothing," he tried to explain.

"But she wasn't nothing!" Belle yelled, finally sitting up, "You loved her. Before you loved me. I am not all of your heart; at least half of it is hers! And I... I'll never compete with your first love."

Jack grimaced, "Belle, please.... Yes, I used to love her, but that was years ago when I was stupid and foolish! I was young and dumb. I have spent three years with you, loving you, and wanting to marry you. It's not a competition!"

"Isn't it!?"

"I want to marry you! I want to spend my life with you! Why does her arrival change anything?" he asked.

"It changes everything!"

"God damn it! Then how do you expect me to prove it to you!? You've clearly made up your mind!" Jack retorted.

"... Maybe I already have." She sighed, crossing her arms.

Jack stared at her in disbelief. "Belle, you... You can't be serious."

"How am I to trust you? How am I to know your heart fully is mine? How am I ever to be able to feel I am yours when I know you are not mine? She was your first, and the countless girls between her and I... What is left for me now? The scraps of what she didn't take." She explained, "How am I to sleep at night, knowing the man I sleep beside held another woman in such an embrace, with true love in his heart?" She explained,

"Belle... I know what I did before you was not the best, but.. I am a different person now. I've changed!" he said, pleading for her to understand.

"I don't believe you are so different..."

"You don't... believe me?" he choked,

"No... Suddenly... It all makes sense. You have always loved her. But you had to leave her..." She said her tone became rageful. "How am I to know, you haven't pretended to love me... For my family's money, power and influence. That you never planned to be with me, only long enough to take what you needed. Now the wedding approaches so you bring her here. You sent for her, ready to start a life with the woman you love, once you stole everything from me!"

Jack stared at her, completely flabbergasted. "You think I only became engaged to you.... for your money?" he repeated.

"And now that you are so close to having it, you send for your beloved Evelyn. So you can take what you need, run off together and start the life you truly want."

Jack scoffed, "So you... think I've been using you this whole time? Pretending to love you and have feelings for you?" he asked, "You think I never truly loved or cared for you? That I've been a liar this whole time?"

"I have my... Suspicious." She snapped,

"You.... you really don't trust me, do you?" He mumbled.

She shook her head. "No, I don't."

Jack tried to fight down the tears welling up in his eyes. "I... I don't understand. I've always been faithful to you.. I've never done ANYTHING to make you doubt... I thought I proved I'm a different man," he said, his voice quivering slightly.

"But the man you were may still be in there... And that is a risk I will not take." She said, "Goodbye, Jack."

Jack let out a sob, "You... you can't do this.." he choked out, his heart on the brink of breaking to pieces.

She turned away, watching the flames in her fire, refusing to respond.

Jack moved towards her, reaching out to grab her hand. "Don't do this.. I love you, Belle," he said through his tears.

"Please leave my rooms, or I shall call for my father." She spat, unable to meet his eyes.

"Belle..." he tried again,

She took her hand away, stepping back to force space between them. "Go home, Jack." She commanded

Jack felt like he'd been shot. She was pushing him away... He let his hand hover in the air before it dropped back to his side. He felt hurt and completely heartbroken. He never thought this would ever happen... he thought she was the one... "Belle.." his voice cracked as he tried one more time to plead with her. "Belle.. don't... please don't do this.." he begged.

"Go!" She yelled. "Before I call for my father."

"Belle, please..." His voice cracked. He looked desperately at her, his pleas becoming more desperate. "...Belle... I love you."

"I said. Go." She spat her tone full of anger, "Get. Out!" She yelled

Jack took a step back, the reality of the situation finally hitting him. She didn't feel the same. He took another step back. Taking one last look at her before he finally turned away. "Goodbye, Belle.." he whispered, his heartbrokenness was evident in his voice.

She didn't say goodbye; she turned away, crossing her arms.

Jack forced himself out of the room, shutting the door behind him. As soon as he closed the door, he took a step back and allowed his heart to break completely. He slid down the door to the ground, holding back sobs that bubbled in his chest. He didn't care who heard him; he let the tears fall. He had lost the love of his life. The fiancé he wanted to spend his life with for years to come. She was gone, and it hurt like hell.
