"I'm glad your eating."  Pete said with a mouthful of bacon, smacking his food  ever so loudly. I smiled weakly, glancing down at the rest of the food I had yet to eat.

It wasn't as difficult as I thought it'd be, actually. Pete made me feel confident.

"Anything for you."

He grinned, reaching for another slice of bacon when I suddenly blurted, "have you ever thought about going vegetarian?"

Pete stopped his hands, moving his eyes towards me and locking them together.

"Uh, no. Why? Have you?"

I thought for a second. Being a vegetarian was something that has crossed my mind a few times, but I don't think I'd ever actually go through with it. Honestly, I don't know why I even asked him that.

I shrugged. "I don't know. I was just wondering."

That was when he reached for the bacon again, popping it into his mouth with hesitation. "Oh, well no, I haven't."

I nodded slowly, stabbing a piece of some sort of weirdly cooked sausage with my fork and stuffing it into my mouth. I know it sounds strange, but eating made me feel a whole lot stronger, I guess.

We sat in silence, eating our breakfast for about five minutes before Pete's phone began to ring. Without even looking at the caller ID, he answered it, probably because he didn't want the ringing phone to bother anyone else eating. Pete thought about those types of things.

"Hello?"

I paused my eating and listened to him talk. I mean, it wasn't eavesdropping or anything. He was right in front of me. If he didn't want me to hear him, he should've walked out.

"Yeah. Yeah, of course!"

I continued to listen.

"Seriously? Fuck, man, that's awesome!"

Who was he talking to?

"I'll talk to him, but I'm sure he'll want too! Congrats, by the way. Yeah, I'll talk to you later."

And then he hung up, grinning at me.

"Who was that?"

"That was Sam. Him and Kayla are engaged! They want us to go to their engagement party."

I took another bite of my food. "They are? I didn't even know they were dating.."

Pete laughed, finishing off his last piece of bacon, and then of course reaching over to steal a piece of bacon from me.

"Well, they've been together since forever. You wanna go?"

I nodded immediately. "Yeah, of course. What do you do at engagement parties? There's no strippers.... right?"

Pete laughed again.

"You're thinking about bachelor parties, babe. No, there's not gonna be any strippers."

My lips twitched up into a small smile. No strippers, nothing of that sort, so a party ought to be fun.

We were walking down the street, hand in hand, just talking about random things that came to our minds when it began to rain.

It was coming down fast and we were absolutely nowhere near Pete's car. Like, absolutely no where near.

"Pete, run!" I exclaimed as I watched him walk as slow as possible, still gripping onto my hand so I couldn't run either.
