Chapter 23: Choice

[Kuroshiro's POV]

"Kuroshiro,"

Medusa stated through the orb, making me sigh. "I-I'm sorry..."

Damn it, I'm stuttering again... I hate this. I'm going back to that weak Kuroshiro years ago. Why am I trembling again...? Why am I stuttering from her voice again...?

Damn it.

I have to be strong...

For (y/n).

"Tch. You're stupid. Kid saw you holding that orb, right ? Stupid move." Medusa said, her eyes showing the obvious disappointment she had. "Now they're having suspicions."

My heart skipped a beat at her words... They ?

"...What do you mean... They ? Kid's the only one who saw---so why they ?"

"The seven. Excluding your dear (y/n), of course. Kid saw you with this orb and, well, he told it to everyone."

"...Damn it..." I sighed, turning away. This is slipping out of my control... And I just started.

I have to be careful... Or I'll lose everything.

"That sucks for you, though. Because I have another mission for you."

I tensed up at her words. "...What ?"

"Another mission. Well... After this, you wouldn't have to do much." A grin cracked from her lips---which sent chills down my spine.

"Really ?" I asked, feeling my hopes go up a bit... Does that mean I won't have to lie for her any longer ?

"Yep. Because you have to leave that sh*tty academy and come back to me." Medusa cracked up an evil laugh. "I'll finally have my precious Kuroshiro-kun back~! I'm excited."

As she said those words filled with pure excitement, I can't help but to drop the orb in shock... Good thing I was sitting on my bed, so it landed safely on the soft cushion.

...I'll have to leave ?

"N-no... B-but... (y/n)..."

Medusa's grin seemed to fade because of that. Her laugh silenced down, and a stern look appeared on her facial features...

"I want you to gather Lord Death's plans, and tell them to me. I'll send one of my snakes there, and tell him I'm planning to take over the academy. And you, being one of his best meisters, I'm sure he'll put you with Maka and the others. I'm sure he'll give you his trust, and I want you to break it. I want you to turn your back to them. Leave their side and fight for mine." She explained sternly, giving me a look that clearly stated how I have to do as she says.

Now I can feel my whole body shaking... She's making me betray the academy... Kill my only friends, and lastly... Kill the only light I have.

"W... Why...?"

"Because that will make them vulnerable. Weak. Look, Kuroshiro. If you betray them, they'll lose a large part of their winning chance. Add along the advantage of them being heartbroken because of that."

...Her plan...

Her plan's getting way too far. That was the only thing in my mind. This is way too much.

"Then, we take a break and let them mourn. While they do, I'll take this chance... And I'll kill every meister and weapon there ever is. I'll succeed, and I'll be a hero for the witches... I'll gain power, because I'm the only one who erased the greatest threats of the witch race."

"...No..." I narrowed my eyes. "No... Making me do things behind their backs is one thing already---and now you're making me leave them ?! Betray them in a time they need me the most ?! That's just like killing myself---they're the only people who understood me !" I can feel tears fill up my eyes. The thought of having to betray them... I can't... The only thought is enough to tear me to shreds---what more of leaving ?

"...Oh... Resisting, I see." Medusa laughed. "Look, Kuroshiro. You only have two choices. You follow my plan wilingly, and I promise to keep you and your dear (y/n) safe. Only, you'll be my servant and (y/n) would be my toy. But if you don't... Well, I can make Kuro release the black blood in you, and put you into instant insanity. Insanity under my control. And you'll be my little killing machine, instead of the kishin egg I made with the blood from your arm."

I stiffened in my spot. This woman... This woman's insane ! She always makes sure I don't get to disobey her commands. She always... Agh !

And she always succeeds... I always let her know my weaknesses... So in the end, even though I fight back... It'd be useless...

It'd break my heart to betray them, but it's better than to let them die, right...? I'm making a good choice... The best choice possible. It's better to look bad in their eyes and make it look like I'm heartless than to let them die.

"...Other... Other than leaking plans to you... What else do you want me to do...?"

I stared at her through the orb, feeling my tears stream down my cheeks as a smirk grew across her lips.

"I knew you'd choose this. Good boy. I'll tell you tomorrow evening. Rest well, my little servant."

I made a sigh, and watched the orb's glow wear off, Medusa's face fading as the orb went back to it's dull color.

And as it did... I let my tears fall free and let small sobs crack my voice.

Why me, of all people...? There's 7 billion people in earth... There's so many people out there... But why me ?

Why do I have to suffer this much ?

I'm so sorry, (y/n)...

But I guess I don't have any other choice.

I guess... I guess I'm just... I'm cursed to suffer for the rest of my life.
