Summer's over

And so are we, right?
I wish you were still next to me,
holding me tight.

Whispering into my ear,
kissing my forehead,
taking away everything I fear.

In summertime, there's no space for anxiety.
Life feels lighter -
or at least just not that heavy.

But sooner or later,
everything ends, right?

Summer's gone.
So are you.
Gone who used to hold me tight.
Now there's just empty space beside me,
leaving me freezing at night.

But autumn's already waiting
just around the corner.
Arms outstretched to greet me,
he seems gentle.
Caring and kind.
Eyes sparkling, smiling friendly,
but still there's you on my mind.

And maybe it'll always be like this somehow.
Because I'll never be ready to let you go.
Not yet.
Not now.

I'm begging on my knees for you to stay.
Summer - my endless love-
please don't go away.

I know,
you have commitments in far-off places.
You spread your warmth,
kissing other faces.

I picture you,
tracing your fingers down her skin
the way you once did with mine.
Whispering in her ear,
sending shivers down her spine.

But no matter what,
no matter where -
I'll always be yours.

Which isn't fair.

Because you'll never be mine.
Never completely. Not at any time.

I'm aware -
you'll never stay.
Seasons shift -
and drift away.

And I'll be here,
grieving for May.

Waiting quietly.
Patiently.
Until it's you again
who greets me -
arms outstretched.
In between the only place
I want to be.

But time flies
and months will pass by.
June, July, August -
let's give September one last try.

One last chance
to fix things.
To bring back opportunities
we thought we'd miss beforehand.

So many plans we had,
a to-do list so long.
How many points did you cross off,
now that summer's almost gone?

Maybe next year.
Handshake, pinky promise -
because we really have to do this.

Before we grow old,
become adults
and don't have time for that anymore.

But wait -
maybe we should've thought about that before.
Before we grew up,
and don't have time for these things.

But don't speak the devil.
Let's see what next summer brings.

Maybe that's just how live goes -
so many missed chances.
Why though?
I guess nobody knows.

Time flies,
like the leaves from the tree.
Do you think they miss them in winter?

Will you also miss me?
