"Baby, are you listening?"

Her voice was soft, but sharp enough to cut through the haze floatin' in my room. I had the blunt sittin' crooked in the ashtray, controller slid to the side, and my phone balanced on my thigh. On the screen, Beyoncé had her hair down and shoulders bare as she laid across hotel pillows like a painting. Skin lookin' too damn good on this FaceTime.

I grinned, eyes heavy, voice lazy. "Yeah, ma. I hear you. I just had to, you know, bust this nigga ass real quick. He thought he could see me on 2k."

Beyoncé shook her head, laughin' soft, the kind of laugh she only let out when she was laid back. "You and that game. That's all you do when you're not at your store."

"Guilty." I picked the phone up, leaned it closer so she could see the redness in my eyes.

She rolled her eyes. "And you're high again."

I nodded, and hummed. "Shit, yeah."

"Sad."

I smacked my lips. "Don't act like you don't like me like this. Nigga get honest when they high."

She tilted her head, amused. "Oh really? How honest you get?"

I let my lips curl slow. "You know how honest."

Her mouth gapped open slightly, just for a second, before she closed it and rolled her eyes again. "Nasty."

I laughed, biting my lip. "What? I'm just speakin' facts. You know how I had you on the phone last night."

Her cheeks puffed with a laugh she tried to hold back, eyes dartin' away like she didn't wanna give me the satisfaction.

I grinned, voice dropping low. "Had you whisperin' my name till you fell asleep, ma. Don't act brand new now."

"Okay, shut up."

I leaned back against the headboard, laughin', smoke still hangin' around me. "What you mean shut up? You wasn't sayin' that when you was beggin' me not to stop talkin'."

"Y/n." She dragged my name out, coverin' her face with one hand, but I could see her smilin' under it. "Stop, foreal."

"Aight, I'm done." I laughed. "Tell me 'bout your day again. Now that you got my full attention."

"I should have had it from the beginning."

I nodded. "You right."

She huffed, then stretched out under the covers, one arm tucked under her cheek. "My day was busy. We had soundcheck most of the morning. I almost lost my patience with my dancers. Everybody was off count. Then I had Blue glued to me for hours. I couldn't even walk out without her."
