It almost feels like Alexander appeared out of thin air.
I can still remember our first meeting like it was yesterday.
I was volunteering part time at our local theater, helping the children prepare for their winter show. I was in the middle of trying to herd them together when Alexander appeared and instantly had their attention. It isn't everyday a bunch of inner-city kids meet some ginger British dude that knew a thing or two when it came to tap dancing. It was a funny site, but I would be lying if I said I didn't become enthralled with him myself. Just... for a different reasons.
Alexander was unlike anyone I'd ever met before.
His face didn't match his demeanor.
He had such a soft face—one that was inviting, that gave you a sense of peace. But his eyes were distant. Cold. They screamed danger, and yet, somehow, we began to grow closer.
First it started with him helping me prepare the children for their show. Then he started staying after hours to help me clean up. Once the winter show was over there wasn't any reason to go back to the theater—but by then, Alexander was already stopping by my apartment. Sometimes with takeout, sometimes with that quiet smile that made it hard to say no. We'd cook together, laugh over half-burnt dinners, and finally watch the shows that had been sitting on our "to be watched" list for months. On quieter nights, he'd help me take out my month-old braids
Before I knew it, the lines had started to blur. Those quick goodbye hugs became something else—longer, warmer, the kind you don't want to end. The slight brush of our hands turned into my fingers quietly searching for his.
The forehead kisses lingered a little too long. The looks we shared said more than either of us dared to speak aloud.
I tried to pretend it was nothing, that I could still pull back if I needed to. But I knew better. I was already falling for him.
And then, it happened.
We kissed.
It was exhilarating—like he already knew me, every part of me. The way his lips molded against mine, the way his tongue moved with mine in perfect rhythm, the way his hands found their place along my curves as if they had always belonged there.
It all but took a kiss for me be blinded.
Blinded from all his hidden red flags.
The company I worked for issued a complete stoppage about two months ago. There was a grade 'A' security breach, and then our CEO and his son was assassinated. According to the FBI it was the farthest sniper hit recorded in history.
