The night of the party I was quickly rushed to a cell in the back of the academy. My guards told me Dimitri and Lissa would constantly come and try to see me, but I told the guards I didn't want to see anyone. Actually right now, all I wanted was to die. I didn't want to ever see them again but I soon had trial and was given the okay to get out of the cell and go back to my classes. Nobody would listen to my cries. I didn't want to go back to classes. I didn't want to face anybody. But they said if I could go and graduate they would guarantee me a place away from everyone from the academy.
So that's how I found myself in defense class with every eye on me. Nobody tried to be discretely about the staring or the whispers. "Miss Hathaway, will you come down here and help me?" I looked down at the teacher and sighed. Since I started going back to classes all the teachers picked on me. In my history class my teacher always asked me if that was correct about strigoi. I made my way down to the instructor and he held a stake in his hand. "Now I want you to pretend to be a strigoi. Shouldn't be to hard, and I want you to try to attack me. I want everyone to realize that they have insanely fast speed."
"Sir, I'm not strigoi anymore and I still run as fast as I use to. Why don't you use one of the faster people for this one?" I asked ignoring the gasps from my fellow students. You didn't talk back to a instructor. It was basically forbidden.
"Excuse me? Rose I don't think you have any place to be telling me what to do." I smiled at him and looked around.
"Then how about I teach the class today?" He looked appalled but went to sit down. "Okay for starters let's do some basic stuff that he got wrong. Strigoi are not a little bit stronger than us, times that by ten okay. I remember I could lift a whole car. Second, strigoi will know when there is a guardian present. I walked into the academy and I could smell the extra help. Strigoi's senses are far better than ours. From standing outside on the ground I could see the craters in the moon without squinting. With squinting I could even see the flag. Now the speed of a strigoi is something you always have to worry about. A strigoi could be in front of you then right behind you before you could even blink a eye. And I'm speaking from experience. That's why you always have to stay at least five moves ahead of them. Let's say I was a strigoi again and let's say I want you," I pointed to a year younger than me boy. He flushed and nodded getting out of his and walking towards me. "Now I picked him because I know I am faster than he is. What's you name?"
"Henry," I nodded and took my form.
"Now Henry here I want you to try to attack me," he looked at me a little shocked but did as he was told. I smiled and dodged his attack by going left then jumping on his back and turning his neck slightly. "If I was a real strigoi you would be dead right now." I jumped off his back and he went to sit back down and I called someone else up. "Now I want you to attack me from behind." The boy who was in my year smiled and took his form behind me. I hear a leaf crunch and I quickly turned around grabbing his arm turning it against him and forcing him to the ground pulling his head to the side to show his neck. "You're dead," he got up looking embarrassed and I called two people up this time and they looked surprised. "Now you are both going to attack me. One from behind and one from the front." They smiled and fought over who would be in back. Soon they had it figured out. I looked the guy in front of me in the eyes until I saw his gaze falter to the guy behind me. I turned on my feet tripping him just as the guy in front grabbed my by both my arms. I use him as leverage and jumped up doing a flip over him shoving him to the ground and exposing his neck. "You're dead," I got up and the other guy was getting up. He had fury in his eyes and I smiled. He went towards me punching at me. I dodged them all easily and finally had enough fun and games. I gave him a good left hook and got behind him showing his neck to everyone. "There is where they would have bit you." They both walked back to their seats and I looked at the class. They seemed to be amazed.
"Now can anyone tell me the first mistake that was made?" I looked around and someone raised their hand.
"Um Josh let his gaze flicker to where Ben was coming at you?" I nodded and looked at the instructor. He looked amazed.
"Now I want you to partner up and take turns be the strigoi and come at each other from different angles. Once the 'strigoi' gets your neck bared you stop and change scenes. Once the guardian lands his hand on the chest the 'strigoi' is dead and you change scenes." As they did what they were told the instructor walked up to me.
"That was a mighty fine job, Miss Hathaway." I smiled a little. Even though I still felt like I was going to die I could at least make sure guardian knows every little detail about a strigoi so nobody has to go through what I went through.
