Chapter 16

I rarely left my bedroom after I lost my child.  Lissa tried to come and comfort me but it didn't work.  I wouldn't even let her in the door.  Adrian's death took a toll on me, every night I would dream that he was still here but then no matter how I tried to change what happen he always died.  When I did leave my room it was for school.  I hardly paid any attention and I still couldn't find Dimitri.  Lissa was getting worried about me and even Christian was trying to help.  But there attempts never did anything for me.  I didn't want to talk to anyone, well until today.

I got up and found the note slipped under my door. 

Dear Miss Hathaway,

There is something you must know.  Dimitri Belikov is no longer here with you.  You see I have him, I saw the way you both looked at each other.  And if I do say so myself the best way to get at a traitor is to take the one they love.  So I have kidnapped Dimitri.  He isn't doing to well right now, I suggest you come and find him.  But don't bring anyone with you, or he will turn into Strigoi.  We are in the old abandoned warehouse outside of the academy.  Come tonight and we will make the trade.  You for him.  Honestly I think we are getting the better deal here.

My eyes were watering as I read the note over and over again.  I looked out the window and saw the lights flicker on in the warehouse.  I pulled my pants on and hide three stakes on my body.  I put a jacket and some good running shoes on.  I looked around for my contacts and teeth.  They still thought I was strigoi.  I would give them what they wanted.  I opened my window and jumped out landing on my feet.  I ran as fast as my feet would take me until I was at the door for the warehouse.  I opened it and was greeted by my old friends.  "Jacob, Ryan, Erik," I nodded in remembrance at them.  They looked at me for a minute or two.

"Your eyes?"

"Oh yeah I wear contacts while I'm staying at the school."  I smiled and they saw the fangs.  Yes I also had fang teeth.  They looked rather scary compared to my real strigoi ones.

"Well your lover, Dimitri has been waiting for you."  Erik led me to a small room and I saw Dimitri chained to a chair.  When he saw me his face looked sad.  Like he didn't want me to come.  "Now before we do the trade how about you tell us why you would turn on your own kind."  I looked at Erik and smiled again.

"That young strigoi, Adrian, oh yes he needed a lesson.  He was going to try and attack me.  But you all know that you don't stand a chance against me.  Let's face it, I am the best.  He needed to know his place.  But he wasn't exactly welcomed in my book so I had to take him out."  They all sat down.

"Well won't you join us for something to drink, Rose?  Dimitri here is very good."  They handed me a cup and I looked at Dimitri.  He looked shocked as I brought the cup to my lips.

"You're right he is very good.  But not the best I've tasted."  I looked around at Ryan and smiled.  Out of nowhere a stake flew through the air and landed right in his chest.  He fell dead.  I laughed and Erik  ran at me.  I staked him and he fell to.  Jacob was bigger than Dimitri but I didn't let him see how that scared me.  I took out my stake and lunged at him.  He fought good but I was better I finally managed to stake him and ran to Dimitri.  I took of his chains and he fell in my arms. 

"Why did you come here?  You shouldn't have."  I held him closer and cried.  He kissed my cheek going down to my neck.  I felt the teeth graze my skin and tried to push him off of me.  He wouldn't budge.  That's when I felt it.  The freezing of his skins touch against mine.
