"Ayo getcho bitch ass out this house!" Some guy yelled behind me.

I was walking down one of the roughest streets in my neighborhood, which so happen to be what I lived on.

On my brighter days here I use to get hit on by the guys and hated on by the girls. I don't miss it. I like being lowkey and what those guys have to offer is nothing I'm interested in.

Now all people do is look at me and continue about their day. Can't lie, I'm 0% not offended.& prefer it this way. I already have enough in my life, don't need some hoodrat that's going no where bringing me down further.

I cross the street to Anglo Street and continue my way straight. The library is on that street.

What I want to do most is strip out of this hot ass jacket, but I can't. The scars. They'll be seen and I'm ashamed of them. They show I gave up. They show I'm a coward and all they also prove I'm nothing worthy.

Memorial Public Library comes into view only to have me catch my breath and want to freeze time. No, not this.

It read closed on one of the windows. I rushed to the building to see nothing inside. It was vacant. Turning around and beginning to panic, I put a hand on my hood. What the hell am I going to do now?

The next library is on the other side of town and it's going to take ten dollars to get me out there.

"What the hell? What the hell?" I say to myself as I lower to the curb and sit down clearly frustrated. "Think, Maia! Think."

I should have just accepted Kira's paper. But people don't give anything for free unless it's something in return. I should have just accepted it though. Why am I so stupid?

For minutes probably an hour I just there thinking of something. Just when I thought my day was going to be great. It wasn't.

A car pulled up and also some guy around my age on a bike. I kept my head low so they wouldn't think I was interested in what they were about to do.

It was a drug deal.

"Tell Terry I'm still lookin for em and my money. If he wanna stay in one piece he will find a way to get at me," a masculine voice said. It held authority, yet something relaxing about it.

The other guy replied, "Yeah man, no problem. Thank you."

"Aight. Now get outta here." I heard the bike ride away and the sound of shoes smacking against the pavement then it stopped. I peeked to see the guy staring at me.

"Shit." I muttered as I quickly looked down. I didn't want him to know I was looking. That's cause problems for me. They could think I'm a nurk.

"Aye bruh you can't be here right now. It gets rough out here when night hits." The warned.

So I get a pass? A relieved feeling took over.

I was about to stand when the guy started making his way towards me. "Yo, you hear me?"

I lifted my head right when he stood over me. It was him.

His once confused face expression changed into a calmer one."

"Oh it's you," he said, with relief filling his voice.

I slightly nodded, "S-sorry."

I stood from the pavement and walked away embarrassed. I probably looked like some homeless person.

"Aye," I heard from behind.

I turned and faced him, "I'm leaving."

He laughed, showing off his nice set of white teeth. He then jogged his way towards me and fell into step with me. "Yeah I see that. I'm headin out, I can give you a ride...if you want?"
