~Two weeks later~
I stand in front of the mirror and stare at myself. From another person's perspective all of my wounds have healed. My rib doesn't give me trouble anymore. But I do get headaches from time to time, I can handle.
Life for me since that night has been a bumpy road. Last week Mercedes was buried and even though Jace didn't understand why, I went to her funeral. I had to stay hidden so no one would see me, Jace came along for support and protection. She's the reason I'm alive today...I'm the reason she's dead.
I don't know how I haven't tried to kill or leave Jace for what he did but I'm not angry at him. Maybe I wanted it, even just a little piece. It's weird. I don't know.
But for Jace, he wasn't able to adopt Antwan or Emerald because their grandparents on their dad's side came forth but they want Jace very much involved in the kids' lives. Jace felt honored.
The door to my side opened revealing Jace.
"Aight so I made the cornbread like you said but it might not turn out the way you said it would...nervous about school ain't you?"
I nod. Tomorrow I go back to school since the incident. Everyone thinks I was in a car accident. How I wish.
"You don't gotta go if you ain't ready."
I shake my head m, "Nah I gotta go. I'm already far behind and that project with Kira is due Friday. I'm not leaving her in the cold. As long as I got you I'll be fine."
He wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me into him. "Damn straight. Now come get some conebread witcho man."
I smile and turn around and face him. "Please tell me it's not burnt."
"Define burnt," he chuckles, "Nah I'm lyin shawty. It's crisp."
I laugh and pull him into the hallway. I can smell home cooked food from his room, it's refreshing. These past few weeks all we been consuming is fast food. Yesterday I told him I'm sick of it and I'd cook us some real soul food. He was impressed and bought a bunch a shit.
Yes, I've been living with him since what happened and no we haven't had sex yet. I don't have anyone else...Kira isn't an option, her damn daddy is crazy. And Jace has just been making sure that I'm comfortable and healing. Neither of us have really been thinking about sex, well I haven't.
We enter the kitchen to see the table of food I made and his cornbread. We decided to have movie night and invited Heather, Melanie, Bret, Kira and Trey. Well we did invite Rah Rah but he wasn't for the white people...I don't blame him.
The doorbell rings and I rush and open it. Bret has a bunch of bags in his hands. I help him bring them in. He wanted to bring alcohol. That nigga bought like twenty bottles worth. And being Bret, he had us clean out a plastic container.
He was making some crazy punch.
"This shit cost me 300$ worth. This movie night better land me a Melanie and Heather," Bret joked as he poured the alcohol in the container.
We all laughed, "You a trip man," Jace said.
Someone knocked on the door. While those two poured the alcohol I opened it to see Heather and Melanie. They brought the fruit for the alcohol.
"Hey beautiful," Heather greeted and gave my cheek a kiss. She then proceeded in.
Melanie smiled at me, "Good to see you in shape girl. Stay out of cars with drunk uncles. I know how drunk uncles are."
I nodded, "Yeah crazy."
"True that sistah," she laughed and walked in.
We started setting the plates and stacking the movies beside the TV, while Jace and Bret continued with fixing the alcohol punch.
