I was met with the night's breeze and loud music. Did they not understand that it was Thursday? A fcking school night. Damn wait one more day and have your fun. But at least these people are out here living. Where I'm stuck living day by day miserable as hell.
As always I kept my attention low and hasten my steps. I wasn't trying to bump into anyone I didn't know or cause any problems. That's the last damn thing I need. Besides my day so far has been going good aside from the two bitches and a drunk Dranko. But I prefer that any day over what I usually go through.
The corner store was three blocks away and sold basically everything and if it didn't, there was another store three more blocks away with a gas station across from it. Hopefully I don't have to go that far.
I don't go the corner store often. Last time I went was almost a month ago, so of course I'm not familiar with the place.
I enter the store and head straight for the back. Maybe that's where the drinks are. What I am met with instead is a man stocking bread.
He turns his attention and faces me. "Yeah? Need help?"
I shake my head then nod, "Uh yeah...al-alcohol?"
He nods, "Yeah at the front. What else you want?"
"Burgers...are they here, too?"
He again nods. "Yeah...you new around here?"
I shake my head then start heading to the front, "Thank you."
I don't want to make conversation. That is the last thing I want. Need. At the front of the store there are three people in line. While I stand and wait I look around for the burgers. Nothing. I saw nothing. I might have to head for the other corner store then.
Then I start to smell something good. At the side of me, the older man has his hands stretched out towards me. One holding a burger and the other holding a bag. "You didn't wait for me to tell you where. Is this how many you want?"
I shake my head. "No uh two please...where are you getting them from?" I was curious.
He points over his head to a room in the back. I could now smell the overwhelming smell of BBQ and other delicious food. I wanted to sneak and get myself a burger but sober Dranko would find out. Too much to risk. I'll find something in the house.
"What you want on it?" He asks.
"Everything, thank you."
The man doesn't reply, just heads to the room. I look back to the front of the line and watch as everyone pays for their stuff and leave. Soon I'm at the front and while I'm waiting for my burgers I look at the alcohol behind this guy. Some is in a mini fridge while others are stacked neatly on shelves.
"Uh one bottle of Henney please?" I say.
"What kind?" the guy roughly asks.
Oh shit. I didn't know there were different kinds.
"I-I don't know..." I trail off.
Then the guy from earlier brings me my two burgers. He looks from between the two of us then back to me. "What's wrong now?"
"She don't know what kind of Henney to get, Henry," the guy laughed.
The man I'm assuming who is Henry didn't laugh. He only frowns. "Who you here for? I've never seen you before but you knew to come here. So who sent you?"
"Uh Dranko did." I reply.
The door dings open. I turn to see two girls and two males walking in laughing. I quickly turn back to the guy when I find out who it is. It's Rah Rah, Bianca, Simone....and Jace. Shit! I try to hide from them as they walk past me into a lane.
