Chapter 60: Operation Dream Rescue

After escaping from Malleus, the group was once more lost in the corridors of dreams, plummeting through the skies.
"Hey, Silver! Whose dream are we heading into now?!" Sebek called.
"I don't know! The best we can do is enter it and regroup there!" He answered, grasping (Y/N)'s hand. "Everyone, whatever you do, make sure you stay close to me!"
Grim had his claws sunk into the girl's shoulder. "Bweeegh! I'm gonna be smooshed flatter'n a pancake before we even reach any other dream!"
Silver suddenly narrowed his eyes. "Hm? I see a glimmer in the distance..."
Two little dots came rushing in from the horizon as a voice called out to them.
"...heeey!"
Sebek reeled back. "What's this?! Something's hurtling towards us!"
"Is it a bird? A plane?! No, it's..."
Silver trailed off as a familiar robot boy and artificial Pokémon rushed at them.
"HEEEY!"
"Ortho?! Poyo!?" (Y/N) yelled as they hovered in front of them.
"Yup, it's us! We finally found you!"
Silver gapped like a fish as Poyo rubbed his head into (Y/N)'s arm. "Wh... What are you doing here?!"
"I'll explain later! Just grab onto me!" He grabbed the two boy's shoulders as they held (Y/N). "here we go...WAAARP!"
They all shrieked in terror at the sudden rush of wind, Poyo using Psychic to bring along the bigger Pokémon. In a flash, everyone ended up sprawled on the floor or what looked like the Ignihyde dorm.
"Oof... Honestly, something NEEDS to be done about these rough landings." Sebek complained.
(Y/N) stretched out. "At this point, I'm kinda used to it."
"Are we in...Ignihyde?" Silver asked, sitting up with Absol's help.
Sebek tilted his head. "Whose dream is this?"
"Uh, guys? Where's Ortho and Poyo?" Grim rightfully asked. "What happened to them?!"
Silver glanced around wildly. "They're gone? Oh no, don't tell me they got left behind in the dreamway..."
"Um... Guys? Could you maybe dial it down a little? Or a lot?" Everyone was immediately on guard at the sudden voice, Swampert and Hydreigon especially charging for a fight. "Whoa, whoa, pause! I'm not hostile. No need to give me the aggro-eye, all right?"
Silver blinked. "You're...."
From the shadows appear Idia, seemingly fully aware and smirking. "You can't start a raid without a tank. Now we're finally ready to go in. The opening act is over. Now it's time for the main event. Whee hee...!"
Sebek leaned against Hydreigon, likely wondering if he suffered a concussion. "What are you doing here? What's going on?! Have we awoken from our dream?"
"Sadly, nope. Still in a dream." Idia clarified. "Well, technically it's less a "dream" and more an arcane realm Malleus created, but you get the idea. That cool armor set you're wearing is all the proof we need of that. Unfortunately, you won't be able to bring that back to the real world. It's data, not material."
"Wait. How are you aware that you're inside this "realm Malleus created," as you put it?" Silver asked.
"I mean, Idia wasn't at the party." (Y/N) pointed out. "Does that mean you remember what happened before we went to sleep?"
He shook his head. "I don't "remember" anything, per se. I'm just aware of the situation."
"And the difference is...?"
"Uh, hold on. I'll get to that soon. But first, uh...I've barely interacted with either of you Diasomnia guys, right? I'm Idia Shroud, Dorm Leader of Ignihyde."
Sebek shook his head. "Oh, of course! No wonder you looked familiar. You had a more...tabular form at orientation. This might be the first time I've ever had a proper look at you in person."
"Oh, uh... Yeah. In the real world I attended remotely it seems..."
"We've been working on it." (Y/N) admitted. "Having a Pokémon to walk does wonders."
"I am Sebek Zigvolt of Diasomnia Dorm—Freshman, class D, seat 33!" Sebek introduced. "And this is Silver. Same dorm, sophomore year! He always has that blank look on his face."
Hydreigon pulled him back as Idia squeaked in shock. "Eep! Talk about loud... I thought my eardrums were gonna rupture there. How do Malleus and his dormmates endure this decibel level at close range every day without ear damage...?"
Absol rubbed up against the flame haired male's leg to comfort him as Silver stepped in front of his dormmate.
"Sorry, Idia. I'll tell him to be more careful about that. Though I doubt you'd have to worry about ruptured eardrums in reality, considering we're in a dream—." He suddenly tensed. "Everyone, stay vigilant! Idia, Grim, (Y/N)! Get behind me, Sebek, and the Pokémon!"
The two Diasomnia boys took a defensive stance in front of them as Idia was covered by Noivern, who wanted to help.
"Huh? What's this about? HRK! Oww! Getting sandwiched between armor, hard muscles, and a whole wyvern is painful!"
Grim tilted his head. "Mrah? What's the matter, Silver?"
"If Idia's woken up from his dream, we should expect darkness to attack and try to pull him into an even deeper sleep."
"Oh yeah! It does that. In fact...Malleus could show up in person goin' all, "So you've awoken, hm?" and stuff."
"The darkness we could handle, but I question if we stand any chance against Malleus without Lilia by our side..." Sebek shook his head. "No, I am prepared for this! Whether it be the darkness or Malleus himself...I SHALL PREVAIL!"
"Hrrrk... Pressure's...too much...can't breathe...!" Idia struggled. "(Y/N), call off the wyvern!"
"Noivern, let him breathe." (Y/N) ordered.
Just then, Ortho's voice came from somewhere. "Not to rain on your parade, but...We won't actually have to worry about Malleus Draconia or that black goop for a while. I think he's devoting a heavy amount of resources to putting Lilia Vanrouge and what I believe to be a different anomaly to sleep."
"Ortho! We were scared you'd gotten stranded in the dreamways." Grim called. "Way to freak us out!Where are you, anyway?"
The robot boy and his partner appeared on a monitor hanging over the dorm entrance. "Heh heh, sorry to worry you. If I show up in Idia's dream in my normal form, it triggers a critical error.mSo I'll be sticking to a monitor display. Also...Idia's turning pale from oxygen deprivation. Could you please give him some room to breathe?"
Both boys immediately jumped back, Silver looking especially guilty.
"Oh! Sorry!"
Idia gasped, leaning against Noivern as he took deep breaths. "Whew, I almost set out on a journey to the Underworld... Thanks for the save, Ortho..."
"All right, you three." Sebek said, eyeing the three Ignihyde residents. "What's all this about Malleus devoting resources to Lilia?"
"Oh, yeah... That. Ortho, Poyo, give 'em the rundown."
The artificial Pokémon did a flip as Ortho saluted. "Sure thing, Idia. First, let's cover how me, Poyo, and my brother are cognizant that this is a dream. On the day of Lilia's farewell party, Malleus used his magic to put the entirety of Sage's Island to sleep, or rather, to freeze it, and all of space-time in the region as well. I extracted myself from my gear in data form and, with Poyo's innate abilities to manipulate cyberspace, successfully made it off the island via a communications satellite."
"A communications satellite?!" Everyone yelled as Grim looked especially frazzled.
"You two can DO that?!"
"Heh heh heh, our unique natures came in handy. I'm not a mage, so I can't acquire a signature spell or anything like that, but using a satellite, I can move my mind and soul over radio waves to another gear. Meanwhile, Poyo's entirely made up of code, so it was even more simple for him. No one but us could pull that off, right?"
Sebek held his head. "I hate to say it, but human technology is formidable indeed."
"No kidding." Silver agreed. "No amount of training could enable us to do what you've done here."
(Y/N) smiled. "Still, utilizing your Pokemon's strength is the mark of a good trainer. Well done, Ortho!"
The robot blushed. "Eheheh! I'd say keep singing my praises, but considering the circumstances we should probably stay on topic. So, Poyo and I relayed ourselves from the satellite to Styx, where we acquired new gear."
"Styx... That's the organization Lilia told us about, yes?" Sebek questioned. "The Watchmen of the Island of Woe?"
"Yup. I got support from there as well as a robot unit for Poyo to pilot. Now, we're on a mission to enter Sage's Island to analyze Malleus's signature spell—Fae Maleficience."
