And on to the sea folk. Jade hasn't really bonded with any of the Pokémon because they find him too shady (Raichu finds Floyd fun to mess with). I own nothing.
Chapter 66: Apathy
"Aether signal tracking successful." Ortho announced as they hovered over a vast ocean. "We have arrived at the designated coordinates."
Grim fidgeted, having to dig his claws into (Y/N)'s shoulder to stay balanced. "Mrah! There's so many people clingin' to Ortho, I'm gonna get smooshed!"
"Flying steadily with two people hanging from your arms, two on your back, AND holding Grim. I'm impressed, Ortho." Jamil stated. "But would you mind putting us down now? This looks ridiculous from any angle. If anyone saw me like this I'd never live it down, dream or no dream."
"I don't think you need to worry about anyone seeing us for the time being. After all..."
Ortho motioned to the endless water around them, making (Y/N) sigh.
"He's right, no land in sight. Still, I can lighten the load."
(Y/N) let out Hydreigon and Noivern. Her and Grim hopped onto the Soundwave Pokémon, while Sebek took the Brutal Pokémon.
"Well, that's a little better." Silver said. "But we can't keep clinging to Ortho forever."
Jamil thought for a moment. "Hmm... Hold on. This should do the trick!"
With his magic pen, Jamil began performing an ice spell, impressing Sebek.
"Ah! The seawater's freezing into a boat. It even has seats for everyone."
"Smart thinking, Jamil." Silver complimented, pulling out his own pen. "I'll form the oars... Hah!"
The two sophomores made quick work of it as Jamil tentatively stepped aboard to test the vessel.
"This boat should be big enough for all of us."
Ortho grinned, landing. "It's nice having dependable sophomores around."
"I'm hardly as dependable as the one flying around with us all clinging to him." Jamil stated as Silver helped Sebek dismount Hydreigon. "(Y/N), let me help you on."
"I think we're good where we are now, Jamil." (Y/N) retorted. "I might be good on the water, but ice is another story. Plus, it's probably better to have an eye in the sky."
"Not mention my paws could get stuck to the ice!" Grim complained, making Sebek roll his eyes.
"Careful, (Y/N). Don't spoil him. Anyway, any idea why we came out over the ocean?"
"It's water as far as the eye can see." Silver said, squinting his eyes. "No land in sight. (Y/N), do you see anything from up there?"
She shook her head. "I can already tell you there's nothing for miles around."
The pale haired boy sighed. "No dreamer, either, but they must be around here somewhere."
Jamil made a sour face. "The sea brings to mind a couple people. And what they have in common is—,"
Suddenly, the boat thumped, nearly knocking the boys overboard.
"What was that?!" Silver demanded. "Something slammed into the boat!"
There was another thud and a close call.
"Something's trying to knock over the boat!" Ortho call, steadying Sebek. "I'm getting an enormous aether signal reading from under the boat! It's closing in again at high speed!"
"Is it an animal?" (Y/N) asked as she heard a splash.
Jamil was a bit too preoccupied. "Is it trying to tip the boat over?! Whoa! If we don't do something..."
Seeing the boat rock violently, (Y/N) released Swampert into the water. The Mud Fish Pokémon dove in and for a few moments there was stillness. Suddenly, two wrestling blue bodies breached the surface, knocking into the boat and causing everyone to plunge into the water as the fighting forms also sank under.
"GUYS!" (Y/N) screamed, standing up and pulling out her respirator. "Grim, stay here!"
"NYHA! (Y/N)!"
Before the cat could stop her, she had already dove into the water and began swimming down. Swampert reappeared, allowing her to grab on as they rushed over to everyone. The boys were all panicked as Silver attempted to calm them down.
"Calm down, everyone! Prepare to meet the enemy attack and—hm?" He paused. "I'm talking normally, underwater?"
Sebek took a breath. "You're right! I can breathe."
(Y/N) removed her respirator and found a bubble immediately forming around her. "There are bubbles forming around us. The water isn't even that cold."
Idia's voice chimed in. "An aerosphere made with technomantic nanomachines."
Sebek tilted his head. "Idia, what are these technomantic nano...things?"
"TL;DR: teeny tiny robots that combine to form a barrier between you and the water. I figured you might need to go underwater for this next dream, so I had aquatic gear data ready to go. We're the ones picking the coordinates and all."
"Thank goodness!" Silver sighed in relief. "Now we can fight whatever attacked our boat."
"Ah! Aether signature reading 10 meters ahead. Estimated length, four meters!" Ortho warned. "Judging by its size, it must be the creature that knocked over our boat."
"Four meters?" Jamil repeated. "That's pretty big. And considering it could wrestle with Swampert, it must be strong too."
"What was it, buddy?" (Y/N) asked as her partner blew bubbles from his nose with an unamused expression."
"Pert."
"Well that explains it." (Y/N) said, her stance relaxing. "No need, boys, it's no monsters...debatably."
"Huh?"
There was another loud sigh from the darkness as a familiar voice whined. "Boooriiiin'..."
Jamil relaxed, though he did groan. "Oh, I know that voice..."
To little surprise, Floyd, in his merform, appeared, scratching his head. "I was hopin' for some decent excitement... But nah, it's just land peeps. Though, mud monster there was fun to fight."
Swampert grumbled, clearly wanting to go another round as the boys reeled back.
"Floyd?!"
The mereel tilted his head lazily. "Mm... You guys know me? People from land kinda blur together for me."
"I'm Jamil Viper, a fellow sophomore. I'm in the Basketball Club with you, remember?"
"Ah... I guess that sounds vaguely familiar...Eh, whatever. I ain't interested in school or anythin' up on land anymore."
"Uh, is this how Floyd normally acts?" Idia asked as (Y/N) scratched her head.
"No, he's more disinterested than usual. I didn't think it was possible. Usually, he'll take a little bit more time to loose focus. At least he remembers Night Raven."
"My data describes him as heavily prone to mood swings. Maybe he's just in a poor mood right now?" Ortho suggested as Silver stepped up.
"Floyd, where are Azul and Jade? You three are always together, right?"
That seemed to annoy Floyd a bit. "Huh...? We ain't some package deal or anythin'. Azul's work's been goin' good, I guess. I think he was talkin' about openin' up a few more Mostro Lounge branches. He's prolly still up on land. And Jade's... probably with Azul? I dunno."
"Did you come back to the sea by yourself?" Jamil asked.
"I mean... I got bored."
(Y/N) facepalmed. "Of course."
Jamil kept digging. "Bored? Aren't you a member of the Mostro Lounge's management team? If the business is going well, isn't that a good thing for you?"
"Maybe, but like, things go great no matter what I do. See, I figured there were entertaining people up on land. Kinds you wouldn't find under the sea. But they're all so weak. Just a buncha small fry not even worth botherin' with. And they all get suckered by Azul, hook, line, and sinker. He's got so many anemones at this point, he doesn't even need more. We had a second and third Mostro Lounge branch open in no time flat..."
Floyd sighed in boredom once more as Sebek nodded along.
"Your mention of people getting "suckered by Azul" is concerning, but otherwise, this sounds like perfectly smooth sailing. What exactly is the problem?"
"Ain't it obvious? It's just boring. I got usually checked out. So like, I left to take a solo trip around the world or whatever..."
"Oh, that sounds like a good decision." Ortho perked up. "I've seen data suggesting a vacation is a optimal way to lift your spirits. Where'd you go?"
"First, the Shaftlands. The flagship store for one of my favorite clothing brands is there. I was checkin' out their selection when this bossy-lookin' old dude came up to me like: "Hey, you wanna be in a fashion show?" I thought it sounded cool, so I did it. And after it was over, the dude was like: "Hey, what do you think about signing an exclusive contract with our brand?""
"Interesting." Silver said. "I could see you getting popular as a model, Floyd."
"Somewhere in the dreamscape, Vil feels a disturbance in the force." (Y/N) joked to herself as Floyd went on.
"But if I went exclusive, I'd only be able to wear their brand, right? Which is boring, so I turned him down."
"Boring?" Silver repeated. "Is that a concern?"
"Sure it is. Anyway I bought so much stuff in the Shaftlands, I went broke. So I figured I'd hit up the Sunshine Lands for some part-time gigs."
One could almost hear Idia shutter. "Whoa... Manual labor? That's something I'd prefer to steer clear of forever..."
"What a strange detail for a dream to be realistic about." Jamil muttered as (Y/N) rubbed her neck.
"I mean, it fits his personality."
"I saw a pretty famous restaurant was hiring, so I put in a application. When I did the interview, they hired me on the spot for my experience in food service. And then like my third day on the job, I threw together somethin' for a staff meal that the chef totally loved. The chef asked if we could serve some of it to customers and I was like, "Yeah, whatevs." Then it was such a huge hit, it had people linin' up out the door. The chef was all like, "This belongs on the menu! Could you share the recipe?" and, "I have a sous-chef spot with your name on it..." But how'm I supposed to remember somethin' I threw together at random? It ain't like I wanna to be a chef, either. I just throw together whatever I feel like eatin' in the moment. It was runnin' into a hassle so I told 'em, "I'm goin' to another country. I quit." And then I hit up the Scalding Sands..."
Jamil cut him off. "What where you looking for in the Scalding Sands?"
"I heard it had these "desert" things that're like seas except with sand instead of water, so I though that'd be cool to check out. So I rented one of these funny-lookin' horses with big bumps on their backs."
"Horses with bumps?" Sebek repeated. "Are you referring to camels?"
"Yeah, those dudes. So I was ridin' one of those across the desert, and I found this cave. I explored inside 'cuz it too looked neat, and I found this shiny black teapot."
Jamil froze. "A teapot? Wait, you don't mean..."
"It seemed like it'd be a good one for a Jade to use, so I figured I'd take it back with me. Then when I brushed the sand off, this big red ghost-lookin' guy came out."
"I knew it!" Jamil shouted. "That's the legendary lamp that the genie was trapped in!"
"Yeah, that's when it hit me this must be the dude I learned about in Professor Red Squid's class."
"Happening upon that magic lamp is an unbelievable stroke of good fortune. Did the genie offer to grant you three wishes?"
"Yup. So, first, I wished for something cold, minty, and carbonated to drink. Second, I wished for a double scoop of lemon and cream gelato, and last, I wished for whatever the best street food in the Scalding Sands was."
"You squandered your wishes on such childish requests?!"
(Y/N) began rubbing Jamil's back as he looked like he was about to have a heart attack. "Breathe, Jamil! This is just a dream!"
Even Sebek looked insulted. "This is the Genie of the Lamp that dwells in the desert of the Scalding Sands we're talking about. Isn't he so powerful, he can transform a street thief into a genuine royal prince?!"
"Huh? Look, it was hot, and I was hungry."
Idia sighed. "This is all beyond impulsive..."
"After that I went to the Sunset Savanna, the Queendom of Roses, and Briar Valley, but everyone there seemed so weak, it was just boring, y'know...?"
Swampert immediately grabbed hold of Sebek, who attempted to throw himself at the mer.
"Excuse me?! I can't let that go unchallenged. I can't speak for those other places, but Briar Valley is home to many proud and powerful fae. More to the point, it's home to Queen Maleficia and her heir apparent Malleus! There's no way they'd come across as weak, and they'd CERTAINLY never lose to the likes of you!"
"Huh? Dude, a rando plebe like me can't just walk up and meet royalty."
"What?"
"And who'd just rock up to the castle gates and demand a fight? Weirdos, that's who. Are you stupid or what?"
"Why are you suddenly thinking rationally?!"
"Well, Floyd's not the kind of hardcore martial artist that goes around storming dojos and collecting their signboards." Idia pointed out. "And he's not some shonen fighting manga main character that's obsessed with getting stronger."
"I think we should all stop questioning the logic of a DREAM!"
"So yeah. I got bored of bein' up on land and came back to the sea. Not that it's any less boring here. I saw a disturbance in the water up on the surface so I came to see if somethin' interesting was finally happening, but when I flipped the boat, all I found was a buncha guys I already know."
Sebek resumed his struggle against Swampert. "So you flipped our boat purely for your own entertainment?! Have you no regard for others?!"
"Yeah, at least fighting the mud monster was a bit fun, but man, can something interesting happen for once?"
"Hey, don't ignore me!" Sebek shouted as Floyd began to swim away.
"So. Loud. Look, I'm bored of talkin' to you guys. Could you, like...go away now?"
"What? You're BORED?!"
Floyd ignored him as he passively began floating on, shocking Silver.
"He's completely lost interest in us. Now he's just drifting back and forth with the seaweed."
"What a rude lout! He's mocking us!"
Jamil sighed. "Part of me questions if you have any room to complain there..."
"I didn't know people were capable of this level of sheer apathy." Ortho noted as his brother butted in.
"Apathy... Ah, I get it. That makes sense."
(Y/N) perked up. "What makes sense?"
"Oh, uh... The way I figure it, Floyd's experiencing a massive level of boredom with this whole world."
"Boredom?!" Everyone screamed as Silver was completely baffled.
"I can understand getting bored with fun and games, or with studying, but the whole world? How does that work?"
"Malleus's dreams are designed to remove all negative outcomes. So there's probably zero change of losing or failing at things in Floyd's dream. In the real world, it doesn't always work out when you just on a whim and do things without a plan, right?"
Ortho nodded. "Right. In fact, even when I run extremely detailed simulations, sometimes I get outcomes beyond anything I planned for due to unexpected events."
"What Floyd was describing sounds basically like a perpetual 1 CC no-damage perfect chain combo ruin."
"I see now." (Y/N) said. "It's too easy. For someone like Floyd, who thrives on chaos, this is completely lacking."
"Exactly. God-mode can be a fun way to de-stress but the downside is that it gets dull and repetitive after a while. I kinda get why Floyd's like...that."
Jamil also seemed to understand. "Boredom, mm... Yes, that's doubly plausible for someone like Floyd. During basketball games, if our team is scoring so many points that it's an overwhelming lead, his motivation tends to drop like a rock. Conversely, if we're losing so badly there's no chance of a comeback, he'll be the one guy on the team acting really eager."
"So the higher the hurdle he faces, the more driven he feels." Silver clarified. "I can relate to that."
"There's a difference, though." Jamil corrected. "The challenge when dealing with Floyd is that he's never consistent about anything. Sometimes he has fun picking on someone weaker than him. And sometimes when he's facing strong opposition, he immediately stops trying. It's all about what mood Floyd's in at the time. That's why the Basketball Club coach has so much trouble figuring out when to play him."
Silver nodded, now having a full grasp of the situation. "People inside Malleus's domain are supposed to have happy dreams, but Floyd doesn't look happy in the least."
"I thought Malleus's dream worlds were designed to provide the target with whatever form of pleasure they wanted, but maybe it's more of a system to remove displeasure the target doesn't want." Ortho added on. "Sadness, anger, and the like."
"There are times when setbacks and defeats can be contributing factors in reaching a happy ending. Likewise, there are times when successes and victories can be casual factors in a bad ending."
"That's very poignant of you, Idia." (Y/N) complimented, patting Swampert's back. "Some of our best strategies came about because loses. We had to find creative ways to overcome those challenges and it made better for it."
"No matter how much of a walking cheat code Malleus is, maybe he just doesn't have that level of predictive ability or control. Which leaves his only option beings a systematic elimination of all negative emotions. But even then, in this case, there's a fundamental mismatch between the system provided by Malleus, the dev, and the playstyle of Floyd, the player. If this was a game IRL, you could just write it off as "not for me" and uninstall it. But there's no getting out of this dream, which means Floyd's simply given up on playing the game altogether."
Ortho crossed his arms. "I see, so if you hadn't woken up from your dream, you might be like Floyd by now."
"I dunno about that. Between my gaming backlog and my unbuilt plamo kits, I could've potentially gone years without getting bored. But who cares about me?! We have to figure out how to make Floyd up."
"How about delivering a strong jolt?" Silver suggested as usual as Jamil side eyed him.
"You're a lot less savvy than you look. Still, I've noticed something, or a lack of something: shouldn't there be a Pokémon here trying to wake him up? We're surrounded by ocean, so there's not many places to hide. (Y/N), you have plenty of water dwelling Pokémon, which one would be likely to try to wake up Floyd?"
She sighed. "That's the thing with the twins, neither of them have really bonded with any of my Pokémon. Azul managed with Milotic because he wasn't in the thick of it, but Floyd and Jade were front and center when we got kicked out of the dorm, so the well was kinda poisoned for everyone. As a matter of fact, the only Pokémon I could even say has a modicum of a relationship with Floyd is...oh no."
The boys' blood ran cold. "Oh no?"
"HEY, FISH BREATH!" A high pitched, sing-song voice called out from somewhere in the vast ocean.
Floyd had a split second of confusion before a small form rammed into him at Mach speed, causing him to spin out.
"Ow! Critical hit!" Idia said as Floyd shook his head, annoyed.
"Hey! Who did that!?"
"I did, genius."
Looking up, Floyd saw Raichu floating about him with a mischievous look, a water bubble around his head.
"Dumb rat! What's the big idea!?"
"What. You said you were bored, so I thought I was livening things up! Not my fault you're too slow to keep up!"
Floyd got his usual murderous look. "What did you say?"
Raichu smirked. "You heard me!"
Floyd darted at the surfing mouse, who easily weaved about using his psychic powers. The others were quite perplexed.
"Wait, why Raichu?" Jamil asked. "Wouldn't it make more sense for Floyd to bound one of the physical inclined Pokémon?"
"Also, Raichu's displaying much more naughty tendencies." Otho noted. "He's usually much more well behaved when he visits Ignihyde."
(Y/N) sighed, feeling Swampert chuckling beneath her. "Yeah, this is just how he is with Floyd. Ever since they met, Raichu's decided his favorite pass time is messing with Floyd and making him tick. It's...definitely a problem."
"Maybe not here." Silver said, watching as the electric type was taunting the eel. "Raichu's clearly capable of out maneuvering Floyd. Maybe losing to Raichu will be the wake up call he needs."
"Or we can be literal with the shock this time." Idia suggested, only for the potent glare from (Y/N) to remind him of her experience with electricity, even through the tablet. "Er, sorry. Bad suggestion."
"Man, you really are slow!" Raichu teased, again dodging a grab from Floyd. "Im barely trying here! Come on, show some initiative!"
"ERR! Hold still so I can squeeze you!" Floyd growled as Raichu stuck out his tongue.
"Why should I? You're the one who's bored! Really now, are you sure you're not the problem? You can't even entertain yourself, so maybe everyone else is just too bored of you to bother!"
That made Floyd go red as he lost any remaining restraint he had. He charged Raichu, not realizing the small Pokémon was baiting him to the surface. The others followed, breaching the surface to see Raichu had lured Floyd into a bubble that was slowing rising into the air. Grim, who had been with Noivern this whole time, began caterwauling.
"Gah! Where were you guys!? And why is Floyd fighting with Raichu!?"
"What is his plan?" Jamil asked as (Y/N) grimaced, having an idea.
"Let's just say he's gonna wish Raichu shocked him."
Floyd then finally noticed what was happened as Raichu exited the bubble and hovered in the air.
"Hey! What's the big idea?"
Raichu's smirk became that much more malicious. "Belly flop."
Floyd went pale. "You wouldn't dare."
"Wouldn't I?"
Like that, Raichu dropped the bubble, and Floyd plummeted belly first into the water with a splat. Everyone flinched and glanced away sympathetically.
"That's gonna leave a mark." (Y/N) noted as Raichu floated down to Floyd, who was motionless and facedown in the water.
"Hey, you awake now?"
"Ugh..." He moaned, barely lifting his head. "Wha...?"
Raichu sat on his tail, sighing. "Okay, let's try logic: why do you refer to Swampert as a mud monster?"
"What are you talking about?" Floyd groaned.
"He swims, breathes under water, and is blue, but most people would call him a sea monster or a water monster, but mud is way more specific! So why did you call him that?"
"I-," Floyd flinched, grabbing his head. "Wh-why did I say that?"
"Because, dum-dum, you either remember he's part ground type or you remember his designation as the Mud Fish Pokémon, which wouldn't make sense if you were so bored at Night Raven College, you couldn't even remember your classmate! If you're so bored of this dream, then wake up already!"
"D-dream?"
Just when it appeared Floyd was starting to get it, the darkness appeared as a copy of Mer-Jade breached the surface.
"Ah, there you are. We've been looking all over for you, Floyd."
Shadow Azul joined in, also in merform. "We heard everything. Really now, if they were going to lie to you, they could've at least tried to keep it within the realm of plausibility. You're a moray merman—a predator who captures his prey with swift swimming and sharp fangs. Even sharks and killer whales tremble in fear when they see that golden eye of yours glowing in the darkness. How could you ever lose to land-dwelling rat?"
"You couldn't." Jade assured. "Don't give any credence to trite land-dweller tales."
Floyd blinked, confused. "Jade? Azul...?"
"Floyd, stay away from them!" Silver warned. "They're going to drag you into even deeper slumber!"
"It would be simple enough to trounce them, but I imagine you'd find it more snooze-inducing than shooing away shrimp." Jade tempted. "Come to us. You can certainly have more fun with us than them."
"More...fun?"
"Heheheh. We'll go along with anything you'd like to do today."
Azul nodded. "Perhaps sparring with a shark in a sunken ship? Matchmaking merfolk with romantic troubles might also be profitable. Forget about that boring land above and let's have some fun. The three of us, together forever, down here under the sea..."
"The three of us, together..." Floyd pondered as the shadow version of his twin reached out a hand.
"Ah, what a wonderful life. What more could anyone ask for?"
The others prepared to jump in, only for (Y/N) to hold out an arm to stop them as Raichu shot Floyd a look.
"You're not buying this, right?"
Floyd cracked his knuckles. "Nah."
Raichu's cheeks sparked with electricity. "Good."
"Huh?"
Neither shadow had time to react as Floyd sucker punched Jade and Raichu zapped Azul. Floyd looked especially pissed off.
"You guys'd never spout borin' lines like that! Who are you people? Don't go around sayin' creepy stuff wearin' their faces and speakin' with their voices—ah, aaagh! Gah... Eegh! AAAaaaAAAUUUGH!"
Floyd went limp for a second as everything came back to him.
Silver blinked. "Did Floyd just...wake up?!"
Sebek was griping his head in confusion. "He rejected the darkness's enticements with barely any help?!"
Floyd looked furiously at the shadows. "The real Jade would try to get my whole sob story from start to finish. And Azul might lie as easily as breathin', but callin' the land above boring? Talkin' about us bein' together forever? He'd NEVER say stuff like that. If one of us ain't feelin' it or can't keep up, we ditch 'em, simple as that. That's our rule. YOU guys, though...You guys just suck. It ticks me off. I'm gonna sink you deeper than a ship!"
Raichu was all too happy to help Floyd dispatch the shadows, the pair merciless in their attacks as everyone was a bit disturbed. (Y/N) even questioned how much of Raichu's aggression was Floyd's influence or his natural pension for mischief. By the time the darkness was dealt with, Floyd seemed to be a bit more...stable as Raichu once again sat on his tail.
"Well, that was fun."
Floyd splashed him with his tail. "I'm still mad at you! That belly flop hurt!"
"Hey, it worked, didn't it?"
(Y/N) sighed, approaching on Swampert. "Glad you're awake, Floyd."
He shot her a murderous look. "Huh? Why're you guys still hoverin' around? It's gettin' on my nerves. You wanna get squeezed? I'm REALLY ticked off right now, y'know."
"Eep!" Grom squeaked. "Run for it, (Y/N)! Goin' by that look in his eyes, he ain't lyin'!"
Swampert growled at him as Raichu rolled his eyes.
"They're real, dum-dum. Can't you tell?"
"Calm down for a moment and listen to us." Jamil requested. "Do you remember getting caught in that spell Malleus cast at Lilia's farewell party?"
Floyd tilted his head in thought. "Huh? Oh, wait... I do vaguely remember goin' to a farewell party for Devilfishie. Huh... Wait, then what am I doin' under the sea?"
Ortho handed him the tablet. "I can field that question. Would you mind watching this video?"
After watching, the eel burst into laughter.
"GYAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Dude, that's hilarious! Man, so we're all dreaming right now? Seriously? Sea Slug's wild!"
"Yes, we are." Silver confirmed. "That's why everything was going so well that it made you bored of the whole world."
"Huh, I getcha. Hm? So like...does that mean anything I wish for will come true?"
"Yes, though it does require a certain level of imagination to take effect." Ortho explained, only for Floyd to quickly cycle through several locations before zapped him back into focus.
Sebek shouted. "Hey, stop goofing around! You're veering us entirely off-topic!"
"I'm gettin' dizzy!" Grim complained as Idia took over.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa... You gotta chill with raising all these "knows they're in a dream" red flags! We don't want the admin to come running!"
"The admin? Does that mean if I wanted to, I could get Sea Slug to come here?"
"DON'T YOU DARE!" Everyone yelled.
"Are you gonna blow the whole sneaking mission we're on?!" Idia scolded as Floyd sighed.
"Maaan... Okay, so where were you again? Talkin' about wantin' to get outta Sea Slug's dream?"
Silver nodded. "Yes. Would you be willing to help us, Floyd?"
"Hmm. Now that things are this interesting, I was thinkin' I could stick around in the dream a while longer, but I'd probably get bored eventually, and I do wanna wake up. It's cool and all when everything goes your way, but it gets old fast."
"Thank you, Floyd!"
"With that outta the way, I'm itchin' to get back to school. Let's give Sea Slug the squeeze and get outta here already."
Jamil sighed in relief. "All right. Let's move on to the next dream before you change your mind."
"Who're we hittin' up next? Jade or Azul?"
"Considering he's your brother, I say Jade." (Y/N) suggested. "Plus, he doesn't even have a rivalry relationship with any of my Pokémon, so I don't think there's anyone trying to wake him up right now."
Floyd seemed to agree. "Ahaha. What kinda dream do you think Jade's having? Betcha it's climbin' a mountain..."
"A mountain...?" Ortho repeated. "Oh yes, Jade Leech founded the Mountain Lovers Club on campus. We should anticipate a high-altitude mountainous setting, then. Floyd Leech, can you change to your land form on your own?"
"Hm? Oh, I could if I had the right potion, but I don't. So nope."
"Hmm. You're in a dream, so you should be able to transform back and forth without said potion..." Idia said. "But it might be hard to break yourself out of the conviction that you need it. In that case..."
On the suggestion of the older Shroud, the group quickly demonstrated their transformation power, which Floyd caught on to.
"Dreamy Magical Makeover!" At once, he transformed back into his land form. "Oh man, this is handy. You rock, Firefly Squid, If only it was this easy in the real world. C'mon, Firefly Squid, you gotta hook me up with this once we're back!"
"Uh, sorry... Bodily transformations, unlike outfits, have some pretty strict rules IRL. Please consider this a dream-only thing."
"Tch... Man, you're useless."
Swampert smacked Floyd on the head as (Y/N) sighed.
"I would give you a Dream ball for Raichu, but I know for a fact you'll abuse it, so you two! No killing each other on this trip!"
"Yes, ma'am." Both moaned as Ortho handed Floyd the digital invitation and made a copy for the dream.
"What do you think of this projection of you, using the latest in Styx technology?" Ortho boasted. "The others all tend to get surprised and amazed."
"I dunno, I'm no stranger to havin' a body double around. This ain't exactly novel to me."
"That makes sense. You're always with Jade, and he's identical to you. I can see how this wouldn't make you blink an eye."
"What're you talkin' about? Jade and I don't look alike at all."
"Huh? Wait, what do you..."
"Ortho, stop." (Y/N) warned. "You'll hurt yourself."
"Um, okay! So, off to the next dream. Silver, are you all set?"
The pale haired boy nodded as (Y/N) called back her Pokémon and grabbed Grim. "I'm ready when you are. Hold onto me, everyone. Those I've met and will someday... Meet in a Dream!"
