new year
new school
new people
the joys of it all.
"it's high school"
father says
"enjoy it while it lasts"
"it goes way to fast"
brother says
"I miss those days"
well at this point
I do not see it that way.
these are the years
when a child is pushed
to become an adult.
when that place is your
worst nightmare
it is hard to see it as a dream.
"have fun in these golden days"
but these days mean something to me,
something different than it did
to them.
it's a chance.
chance for change.
to try and break free
from their chains
and expectations.
change yourself
be positive
be you.
be who you want to be.
"you have more freedom now"
well give it to me.
I'll take you up on that offer;
let me run to my heart's content.
these are my years to be free,
to face rejection,
to dream big,
to be put on an oversized pedestal,
enjoy life,
to drown in anxiety.
to stop and smell the roses
before they quickly wilt.
I mean after all,
it is high school,
"the best four years of my life".
c.d.
a/n: I'm starting high school tomorrow. these are the thoughts that go through my head when people tell me to enjoy it. it'll be fun and all, just not what they chalk it up to be. and since I am starting school, it will be difficult for me to update. By the way, props to anyone who got the title of this poem.
