"Even I have a surprise for you," he said, his voice a low, amused rumble.
If I didn't know him...truly know him...I would have been excited. I would have flushed with anticipation. But this tone... I know it too well. I've heard it right before worlds collapse.
It could be anything but... pleasant.
And finally, he turned fully towards me. His head tilted to the side, a predator examining its cornered prey.
He was watching me, drinking in every flicker of unease that crossed my face, savoring the slow-blooming dread.
"Are you looking forward to it?" he asked, the question a velvet-wrapped blade.
My grip on his arm loosened instinctively, a betrayal of my nerves I couldn't fully control. But I quickly plastered on a smile, a brittle facade of composure.
"Of course. How can I not?" I managed to utter, but a thin, sharp thread of anxiety wove its way beneath the words, impossible to completely hide.

-#[Skip time: At the restaurant]
I was seated across from him at the intimate, linen-draped table.
The crystal glasses and polished silverware gleamed under the soft, romantic lighting, which was a stark contrast to the glacial atmosphere between us.
For any on-looker, it would look like a table occupied by a couple but...in reality? The tension that hung in the air between us would shatter that image within seconds without showing any mercy.
The entire time, I could feel his unnerving, cold gaze fixed on me from the other side. It never wavered. Not when the sommelier poured the wine, not when the first course was served.
Throughout the dinner, that stare was a constant, heavy weight.
And I would be lying if I said it wasn't getting to me. With every passing second, the silence felt more like a verdict waiting to be read.
But what was more surprising was that he was even here at all.
I had thought he wouldn't be convinced to go on a dinner with me so easily.
Not after everything. Not after the complicated, utterly messed up tapestry our relationship had become.
Now, that might be a long story. But it's the bedrock of my entire existence.
Jungkook and I had known each other since we were children. We were, to put it simply, childhood sweethearts.
Our families were two pillars of the same powerful empire, and as such families do, they decided our futures when we were still too young to understand the weight of such a promise.
We were promised to each other.
But what no one knew...what I buried deep inside...was that I was always, truly, in love with him.
Always.
I was raised with a specific purpose: to be graceful, poised, the perfect, polished counterpart to his raw power.
I was groomed to be his future spouse.
And because of that, I had always known, with a certainty that bordered on fanaticism, that he was mine.
