You take a step off the bus and back into the summer heat as you line up in between Mina and Bakugou. Your father gives instructions for the bus driver to wait in the parking lot until the exam is over and then walks over to address your class.
"Alright, this is the National Dagoba Arena where your provisional licensing exam will be held. Passing this test and achieving your license is the first step in you bunch of fledgling eggs hatching into baby chicks. Or in your case, semi-pros." He looks around at his class, nothing short of assurance in his eyes, "I expect nothing but all of you giving it your best."
Cheers erupt from your classmates.
"I can't wait to be a heroic chicken!" Denki jokes, sending most of Class 1-A reeling from laughter and Bakugou scoffing.
Even your father lets out a breathy laugh.
Kirishima steps up from his spot beside Mina, "Alright guys! You know what to say! On my mark, go Plus-"
"Ultra!"
A voice overpowers that of yours' and your classmates' and you all turn to find an extremely tall boy in another school's uniform finishing your class chant.
The rest of his class stands behind him, one of his classmates reprimanding him for barging in on your class call.
"My apologies! I am so incredibly sorry!" The boy nearly cracks his skull open as he bows low in apology.
You are quite literally left speechless. Mina elbows you in the side and the two of you share a look of confusion and a hint of horror.
Jirou's whisper carries over from where she stands near the front of the line, "Those uniforms...They belong to that well known school on the other side of the country."
Bakugou confirms, "Shiketsu is the west's U.A."
The name was familiar to you. Although you'd never paid much mind to any school other than U.A., you do remember your father mentioning Shiketsu High once or twice. He'd come home from his previous class' provisional licensing exams and he wouldn't say much in front of you but you'd overhear him and Midnight throwing around the name Shiketsu High.
You assess the boy and his classmates as he explains how he loves U.A. and has always wanted to chant Plus Ultra!
'Weird. Was he not accepted?'
Blood began to seep from the Shiketsu boy's forehead and his classmates urge him into the arena, leaving you and the rest of 1-A utterly baffled.
Aizawa breaks the silence, "That is Inasa Yoarishi. He's strong."
Nervous gasps are let out by a few of your classmates.
'Shit. If dad thinks he's strong, he must pose a threat.'
Your father continues, "He's in your year and out of the students submitted by recommendation, he received the top scores."
Suddenly you feel your classmates shifting gazes between you and Todoroki and you have to swallow down the discomfort.
"But for whatever reason, he declined his acceptance into U.A."
You shift your eyes over to Todoroki who is already gazing at you with a look of understanding. The notion was enough to lift a weight off of your shoulders.
"He will be a tough opponent. Keep your wits about you-"
"Eraser?!"
A cheerful voice calls out for the pro and you struggle to bite down the laughter from seeing your stoic father cringe.
"I thought I saw that familiar scowl!" Ms.Joke struts over to your dad and his eyes widen in a cry for help. You hardly saw the green haired pro in your childhood but the few times she'd interacted with your father, she'd made a lasting impression.
"It's been so long since I've seen you! The last time I saw you was on tv during the Sports Festival. Since then, I've been dying to see you in person." She stops right in front of Aizawa, beaming up at the man, "Let's get married."
"No." Aizawa barely lets the pro finish her sentence before rejecting her.
Mina giggles.
Ms.Joke bursts into laughter, "You make me laugh!"
Your father sighs, already over the interaction, "And you are impossible, Joke."
Midoriya's eyes gleam from meeting another pro-hero and he rambles on about Ms.Joke's quirk, enlightening a few of your classmates who are unfamiliar with her ability.
"Aw c'mon! If I was your wife, your life would have endless laughter!" She continues her attempt at your father.
"That sounds like an absolute nightmare."
The class watches in amusement as your teacher dodges all of Ms.Joke's efforts.
Tsu goes as far as to feed into it, "Mr.Aizawa, you two seem close."
'Uh oh.'
