Break Them Into Pieces

Break them into pieces,
Simple things that no one misses,
I have taken and destroyed
The very thing that once annoyed.

Essential it soon became
The moment one issued blame,
Come and beg in front of me,
How useless can it be?

Cry and plead all day long
Your raspy voice now a song,
It mingles with the others:
Sons, daughters, fathers and mothers.

Here all they hear is each others' fear,
Even if they're not near
Yet they know and comprehend
What they can no longer amend.

All my pets in constant torment
Can't understand what it all meant.

Simple, I explained,
You came and complained
Of all the petty things
And of all the other beings

Whose excellence you lacked,
It was not clearly marked
Why they shall thrive
While you struggled to survive.

I merely gestured for a penance
And in your presence I destroyed
The very soul that once annoyed.
