On your 18th birthdate you can start making decisions for your soulmate and vice versa. The options show to the right and left of your vision. You wave a hand in the direction of your choice. For the past three years I haven't had a single soulmate choice. This is a rare occurrence, but some people just don't have soulmates. At first I was bummed, but then I became okay with it. Who needed a soulmate when there were plenty of girls willing to put out. I didn't want to have to tie myself to one woman.
Jarren, one of my best friends, thought I was crazy. Said I had no idea what I was missing out on. Easy coming from a guy who's childhood friend turned out to be his soulmate. Jarren and his soulmate had known each other since the third grade. Even before they realized they were soulmates people always said they'd end up together. On Alea's 18th birthday, three months after Jarren's, her first choice popped up, smash your face in the cake or chug soda. She chose the cake and the next minute Jarren's face was in the cake.
Keith got his first soulmate choice the morning of his 18th birthday, meaning his soulmate was older than him. He hasn't met her yet and doesn't mind. He's fine waiting until he's down with school. Less to worry about.
I was happy and content living my single, soulmateless life. Too bad the universe had a different idea.
Soulmate chose: Stay for breakfast
My number one rule of hookups was to never stay till the next morning. I stay long enough to get the deed done then leave. Sometimes I stay longer if I drank too much to leave. But I always make sure to slip out before the girl wakes up. That is until this morning.
I woke up early, all prepared to leave when I saw a soulmate choice to stay for breakfast. Four years after I turned 18 and now I'm getting a soulmate. No, this was not happening.
"Hey handsome." A feminine voice sounds beside me.
I close my eyes and curse my new soulmate. Why was this happening to me?
"I know you're awake. I saw your eyes open." The girl continues to speak in a very nasally voice. Her hand comes up and slides across my bare chest.
Holding in a groan I open my eyes and turn to face her. "What you got for breakfast?" Her smile falters a moment at my question.
One agonizing breakfast later, I manage to make it out of that apartment. Had to promise the girl I'd call her later in order for her to let me leave. She insisted and put her number in my phone. I deleted it as soon as I step out of her door.
When I step outside I get a soulmate choice.
Take car or walk?
Payback time! Walk.

Walk? My soulmate chose for me to walk to work? I was already starting to hate this whole soulmate thing. I was so going to be late.

Since that first morning it had been a war between my soulmate and myself. Neither one of us seemed to want to give in and be nice. My days had been full of cold showers, spilling drinks on myself, insulting girls I really wanted to go home with. I made my soulmate pay by not doing her hair, wearing pajamas to work, and answering phone calls by barking.
The night before had been especially bad. I walked into the diner with my head down. Embarrassment still clung to me as I made my way to the table Keith and Jarren had already claimed.
"So, how'd last night go?" Keith asks suggestively as I slide into the booth next to him.
I let out a groan and run a hand down my face.
