Jimin's pov

Jimin walked through the office, and each step he took felt heavy, all the while his heart had a lightness to it he hadn't experienced before. His steps were purposeful, confident, as if he owned the place, which was ridiculous considering all that had been going down in the past year. Jimin was far from being the perfect detective.

When he thought of it, he really did let his former self down. Yet, there was a sense of accomplishment buzzing underhis skin as he looked around at his coworkers and partners, a little playful smile in place, hair rebelliously out of place. The taste of success was sweet on his tongue. did it.

Success.

They've achieved it.

Of course, the story was far from being over. There were hardships ahead, maybe even more dangerous than the ones they've experienced. Still, nothing scared Jimin anymore. He wasn't alone now; he had an entire team he trusted, people he'd give his life for in a blink, and with that, he wasn't just convinced, he simply knew they would succeed again. It was bound to happen.

And what about his former self? Where did that go?

He recalled his first days as a junior there, when he was shy but had a strong sense of justice. He was scared but determined to reach his goal, ready to spend all his time climbing the ladder to become the best detective in the office.

The best private detective in town.

He wanted to be recognized, because without that, he was nothing. Jimin fought for it, lost sleep, and threw himself into the face of danger with no second thoughts.

Did he achieve it? Of course he didn't. He didn't even know what the real reason behind his mother's death was. He didn't find the glowing yellow eyes of the man that dared to watch the scene unfold, haunting Jimin in his sleep for years on end. Hell knew if he was still alive.

And his previous self, Jimin, he desperately chased for an answer; he was in constant pursuit of something that never seemed to come his way, but he saw it as the light at the end of the tunnel. The finality to all of the suffering.

And Jimin, present Jimin, couldn't gift his previous self that. Instead, present Jimin decided success had a different definition, and that he didn't need to scramble after something out of his reach to achieve happiness.

Jimin now had learned that life was a fragile thing that wasn't worth wasting in a futile chase of a happiness that never came. Jimin had learned that happiness was earned only in the present moment. And maybe, he could find it in the smallest things. Instead of looking at the bigger picture, he decided to change focus to the smaller one, to whatever he had within reach.
