|2nd of March|
Lies come hard to disguise
Let me fight it out
Not wild about it
Lay your seeded judgments
Who says they're part of our lives?
Yoongi's pov
*same day*
A few hours before the emergency meeting Romeo and Yoongi called upon that day, Yoongi decided to put all the information he gathered for the past days together, to be prepared in case a time comes when questions would need to be answered.
As soon as people in his team started disappearing, Yoongi explored countless possibilities and variables, searching for answers. Plausible answers.
It wasn't an easy thing to do, though, because Yoongi's subordinates weren't shot or simply murdered, the victims appeared to be part of something bigger, planned, something that Yoongi tried desperately to understand.
He had to look up the internet, search old newspapers, go to public libraries, look everywhere possible, research mysterious types of murders.
Right before his previous meeting with the detective, something peculiar piqued his attention. Everything about it seemed ridiculous, but it felt particularly familiar.
It wasn't a murder technique, as he expected, but some sort of a game. A mind game that drove people crazy, pushing them to their limits, encouraging suicide.
The game spread throughout Asia in the '90s, becoming popular amongst gamblers at first, but that lured teenagers on the dangerous side of the game soon after. A game of life and death, where the player was sometimes given the chance to choose between life and death, and where there had always been a smarter game master that played with the mind of the weakest.
And countless players died. There was no one to put the blame on because it wasn't pure murder, it was still counted as suicide by the authorities, therefore, no game master had ever been accused of murder, because, at the end of the day, they didn't hurt them, not physically at least.
A game about the power one holds upon their old lives, a game that anyone with enough confidence and some basic knowledge would dare to play. But that was the thing, it was tricky, it seemed easy and fun, and the rewards that came with the fame of becoming a popular game master were tempting to say the least.
Secret contests became a thing, like an underground battleground, where only the best of the best would dare participate, where people placed bets, it ignited fights, and the popular underground gangs were soon to use the game for different purposes.
And it was just a game, a game about mind control.
What linked the game to the way Yoongi's subordinates were murdered? The weird, unnecessary amount of scratches found on the corpses, and the poison.
The scars bore by the players were the unique characteristic of the game. Players would take pride in the amount of scars on their skin, as it symbolized experience in the game. As time passed and the game started to be banned in most countries, the players would eventually hide their scars, and only show them off during the secret rounds held underground. For a long time after that, authorities kept on finding several victims with signs that resembled those on the players, but closed the cases eventually, systematizing them as suicide cases, or simple disappearances.
