Jungkook's pov
Time slowed down that night. It had been one of the most torturous nights one could experience, and it wasn't just for Jungkook; it was for the whole team. An ocean full of emotions: fear, anxiety, empathy, desperation, determination.
They all felt the same to some extent.
Yet the past few days had been wiped away so quickly from under their feet, Jungkook woke up one morning, and his head was no longer consumed by the racing, anxious thoughts he used to have. He was no longer questioning his feelings.
He was no longer questioning Taehyung's.
He didn't care anymore.
There was just one thing he cared about: getting him back, alive.
He was dead set on not letting anyone make any more mistakes, and he wanted to make sure the plan was perfect. So, for the next few weeks, he had barely slept, taking turns at the office with the rest of the team, getting involved, trying to be in on every single detail.
The only problem was that he felt everyone was hiding the truth from him. Maybe not everyone.
And maybe not only from him. Maybe some people on the team were still hiding things from everyone else, a danger to the fragile stability they had been trying to build for months. A combination of detectives and, well, convicts, working together for the greater good, with one common goal: helping each other, but also learning to collaborate. It had been difficult to begin with.
He felt it in the quiet gaze exchanges, in the sudden tension that filled a room whenever Yoongi and Inspector Kim came in together. In the way Jimin nervously bit his lip, his eyes hesitating whenever Namjoon looked at him with a puzzled expression.
It felt tense .
Maybe Yoongi and Inspector Kim were hiding something, something not even Namjoon or Hoseok could tell what it was, and Jungkook sensed the danger.
Jimin didn't know about it either, and Jungkook couldn't let this ruin all of the plans. What if it was something threatening to ruin the entire operation? What if someone on the team was in danger of dying?
What if it was going to be Yoongi, or... Taehyung ?
No.
That couldn't be possible. Yoongi would never do that.
Could he trust Yoongi at this point? Of course Jungkook had trusted Yoongi blindly in the past, but he didn't know whether that was such a good idea anymore.
He needed to know, to confirm. Jungkook had to talk to him, to see if the Yoongi he knew was still there.
The night before the CIA exchange, Jungkook moved on autopilot, his legs carrying him long before his mind caught up.
He was now in Yoongi's office waiting for him. It wasn't really an office, just a small improvised room where the detectives let Yoongi store his things. It was small and dusty, but it did the job. There were storage shelves on either side of the desk covered in old spider webs and, most likely, cardboard boxes full of forgotten files. Yoongi had been using it for months now, storing and collecting.
There was a very strong smell of cigarettes already permeating the walls of the room, the small open window doing little to help. Jungkook opened it for some fresh air and took a seat in Yoongi's usual rickety office chair. The desk was filled to the brim with piles of paper. Jungkook couldn't tell which sheets held accurate information, written words that might hint at the unrevealed truth, signs, drawings, maybe pictures.
