Chapter 30: The Basement Revelation
Shizuku Academy - The Courtyard
Yurika and Midori stood near the school gates, staring at the cryptic text message, when Yurika's phone suddenly rang. The caller ID made her blood run cold: Principal Turo.
"Turo... why is he calling now?" Yurika muttered. She answered, bringing the phone to her ear.
"Where do you think you're going, Yurika?" Turo's voice was dripping with smug satisfaction. "Did you forget about our little deadline? There are only a few hours left until the clock runs out. If you don't bring yourself to my office, I will release the evidence for the entire world to see."
Yurika's grip on the phone tightened. "Is that why a teacher stopped me from coming to your office earlier?"
Turo chuckled. "I just wanted to see what you would do. I wanted to watch you squirm."
Yurika's eyes darted upward. She scanned the main building, her gaze locking onto the third floor. There, in the first window the Principal's office-stood Turo. He was looking down at her, a dark smirk playing on his lips, holding his phone to his ear.
"So you're watching me right now, huh?" Yurika said coldly.
"Isn't it obvious?" Turo replied, hanging up the phone and stepping back into the shadows of his office.
Midori sighed, her shoulders slumping. "I can't believe Principal Turo is this corrupt. I just can't believe it."
Yurika turned to Midori, her face set in stone. "Midori, the only thing we can do right now is prepare. We don't know what's waiting for us at that warehouse, but we have to divide and conquer."
"I'll do whatever I can, bestie," Midori said with a determined nod.
Yurika gave her a small, genuine smile. "Go to the warehouse location, but do not go inside. Just scout the perimeter and wait for me. I need to confront Turo and get my necklace back."
Midori looked worried. "Are you sure you'll be okay alone with him?"
"Don't worry," Yurika said, her eyes narrowing. "I am not as weak as he thinks I am. I'll make sure this ends today."
Midori nodded and hurried off toward the taxi stand. Yurika turned her attention back to the towering school building. She began her slow, deliberate march up the stairs.
The Principal's Office
The third-floor hallway was dead silent. Classes were in session, leaving the corridors completely empty. Yurika reached the heavy oak door of the Principal's office and pushed it open without knocking.
Principal Turo was waiting. He stood by his desk, looking perfectly composed, though a malicious glint shone in his eyes.
"Ah, Yurika. Ready to sign your expulsion forms?" Turo sneered, tapping a stack of papers on his desk. "Sign this, and drop out quietly."
Yurika walked in, her expression completely unreadable. As she approached the desk, she casually set her phone down, leaning it against a pen cup. The camera was angled perfectly, and the voice memo app was recording.
"Let's get this over with," Yurika said flatly. "If I sign the form, will you give me the necklace?"
"A deal is a deal," Turo smiled warmly, a terrifying contrast to his actual intentions. "You get your necklace back, and your little secret remains buried forever. The secret is that you are the one who killed Sumire."
Yurika didn't flinch. Instead, she smirked. "Then you're no different than I am."
Turo's smile faltered. "What are you talking about?"
