"Wake up, Lu. Now. Luuuu, it's time to wake up!" My alarm clock yelled at me. Oh, how much I regretted letting my sister shout something into my phone as my alarm clock but it kinda reminded me of home. Back in high school, my sister was always the one to wake me up so I got accustomed to hearing her whine in my ear while tearing me from my dreams.
Jane, on the other hand, might want to kill my sister when she'd meet her just because she was conditioned to hate that voice. I hoped it would never come to that confrontation. And if it would happen, I'd be a traitor and choose Jane's side, simply because there was no way in hell I could ever defeat Jane in a fit of anger. Sorry, sis.
"Why is that thing even on during the weekends?" Jane sighed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"Habit." I replied with a sleepy voice. We'd gotten home quite late, or early depending on how you look at it. Much to my surprise, I'd had a lot of fun and I really liked Jane's friends. Even though the three of them had their own dynamic, I hadn't felt excluded at all.
"Well, I guess it's a good thing we're up." Jane uttered and I looked at her like she was being delirious. Maybe there was still some alcohol left in her brain because that was something I'd never expected to come out of Jane's mouth.
"What?! Who are you? Where's Jane?" I got up from my bed.
"You can close your mouth now, you look like the Scream mask." Jane teased and that's all it took for me to shut my mouth. "I meant, I wanted to go shopping today and now we can leave early." She elaborated.
"Ohh... that makes sense." I nodded. "Wait, we?"
"You're coming with me." She stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world. No. No, it wasn't. I figured getting me out of our dorm yesterday had been a stretch but two days in a row? I slowly watched as my hermit plans flew out of the window.
"I guess I don't have a choice." I said and rummaged through my clothes so I could find something cute to wear.
"You always have a choice." Jane replied before she disappeared into the bathroom. I didn't know whether she'd planned to be that deep or maybe it was just a morning brainfart, but wow that sounded so profound.
After a late breakfast, okay a brunch but I don't like the word brunch because it reminds me of crunch which reminds me of crusty and nobody likes the word crusty. Anyway, after a late breakfast, a quick shower and making it my mission to stuff as many tissues in my purse as I could, I was ready to leave. As usual, Jane was standing near the door, waiting for me to get my life together so I could go with her.
"Ooh, we could go with Beam!" I exclaimed suddenly, thinking about my happy little scooter.
"No! It's cute and yellow and it probably barfs rays of sunshine if you sit on it. No way, we'll walk." Jane argued.
"I wish it barfed sunshine." I muttered as I closed the door behind me.
"You wish you barfed sunshine." Jane shot back. "We'd still have our old couch if you did."
"Excuse me, are you not happy with Ash? Does he not fulfill all your butt-related wishes?"
"Lu, I'm gonna stop you right there before you say something really dirty." Jane laughed as we walked across campus. I'd grabbed my sunglasses the moment we'd stepped outside because I wasn't used to the sun caressing my skin and eyes anymore.
"So what are you gonna buy?" I asked Jane.
"A pastel pink scooter so we can ride together." She deadpanned.
"That would be so awesome! I know you're being sarcastic but just consider it." I pleaded.
"Yeah, no. I need nothing and everything, you know?" Jane explained vaguely.
