I'd made it through class without crying. Obviously my bag was filled with tissues, just in case. This must've been a first where I actually enjoyed the lecture and didn't think about Chris.
Unfortunately, thinking about not thinking about Chris made me think of him. Damn you, brain. At least I wasn't crying all the time. I managed to reduce the crying to once or twice a day. I'd only cry at night when I was alone in my bed and the memories came flooding in again. It made me sleepy during the day but nothing I couldn't handle.
"Look at this." I told Jane when I walked through the door. I threw a box of tissues at her and she caught it with ease.
"Not even used. I'm impressed." She told me.
"You can hand them back to me though. Apparently, my grades will be up today so I need to check my mails." I said. I'd had a few exams weeks ago. Back when I was in a happy relationship and my life seemed so simple.
"Oh yeah, a friend of mine already got hers. I'm going over there tonight with some chocolate." Jane replied. She was standing in front of the kitchen counter, doodling on some paper. For some reason she always felt like drawing whenever she was in the kitchen.
"Chocolate? As in comfort food? Oh no. No no no. I can't handle bad news right now, Jane. Look at me! I'm fragile!" I told her and grabbed the box of tissues before I'd start crying again.
"Would you calm down? I love Dot but she's not exactly the smartest of my friends." Jane attempted to calm me down. It wasn't really working though. The most important things in my life were my relationship and school. Now there was only one thing left so I needed it to succeed.
Either that or I'd go into hibernation. I didn't care if the weather was nice, I'd still stuff my cheeks with food and go to sleep until further notice.
"Stop freaking out, you're eating your fingernails again. Should I open your mails for you?" Jane sighed and stopped doodling.
"No! I'll do it." I replied before she could grab my laptop.
A few minutes later, I opened my internet browser and typed in my password so I could get access to my mails. There was a mail from school and a mail from my sister waiting for me in my inbox.
"Maybe I should check my sister's mail first." I pondered out loud. Jane plopped down beside me on the couch.
"You're stalling." She sang. She handed me a piece of dark chocolate and ate the rest of the bar herself.
"Maybe it's an emergency." I argued.
"Don't you think she would've called?" Jane replied, not buying into what I was saying.
I clicked on my sister's mail. "Oh, look at that. Guess I have to look at it first." I said and earned a passive aggressive eye roll from Jane.
"Oh right, I forgot about the new puppy. Mom told me on the phone a few days ago that they were getting a new one." I told Jane and clicked on the pictures.
"Why call a cool husky Fiddle? Come on!" Jane exclaimed while looking at the pictures with me. Most of them were snapshots of my sister, Liv, playing with Fiddle outside.
"I think it's cute." I smiled.
"Of course you do." Jane sighed.
The next few pictures were my parents and Liv and her boyfriend playing with the little puppy. Tears blocked my sight all of a sudden.
"They look so happy together." I sobbed.
"Come on, Lu. You were doing great!" Jane told me.
"Don't get attached to him Liv, he'll just leave you." I mumbled while looking at a picture of my younger sister looking at her boyfriend like I used to look at Chris.
