“Beth… what are you doing here?”

“Um, Alex I didn't expect to see you here,” she stuttered.

“You know, I could say the same thing,” I stated with a sarcastic chuckle.

“Who’s at the door?” I heard a groggy voice say from behind me.

I turned around and saw Jason, in his boxers and a wife-beater, rubbing sleep out of his light brown eyes, that I could never stop staring at. He squinted at the door towards where Beth was, probably trying to make out who she was.

“Oh hey, it’s um… Bec-Bred… Veronica…” Jason muttered.

“Beth,” I said through gritted teeth.

“Beth! Good morning, Beth!”

“Hi, Jason,” she gleamed, flashing a big grin. What was that all about?

“So, um… why are you here?” he questioned.

“Oh, Britney told me to give you this,” she said, handing a note to Jason.

If I were to tell you I was astonished when I heard her say this, I would be lying. Astonished couldn't even explain half of what I felt when I heard Beth say those words. Britney asking Beth to do her a favor, was just scientifically impossible. Just a few days ago, Britney didn't even know her name, not that a lot of people do, and not only that, but Britney never conversed with people she thought weren’t popular enough for her presence.

Maybe I was just overreacting.

At that moment, I saw Beth approach Jason and whisper something in his ear. When she was done and I could get a full glance at Jason’s face, I noticed a flash of fear in his eyes that left as quickly as it came.

“Bye Jason… Bye Alex,” she said sweetly at first, then spitting out my name.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was how my morning got ruined.

“I am not going!” I screamed.

“Yes, you are,” Jason argued.

“I’m not.”

We had been arguing for almost half an hour now, over me taking my driver’s test, outside of a State’s Licensing building. And yes, I knew that I was almost seventeen and I should’ve had my license by now, but trust me when I tell you. I drive so poorly,  SpongeBob brings me to shame. It’s sad, but it’s the truth.

“Alex, you are almost seventeen. You’re the only one out of your friends who doesn't have a driver’s license and you’re my best friend, but I’m tired of picking you up for school,” Jason babbled.
