c h a p t e r || 31

Chapter thirty-one.
The food is in the oven, and I am walking towards his office. The door is shut, I open it.
Niall sits by the desk, by his computer and I sit down on the couch by the wall.

 "Why can't you let me all the way in?" I ask, and he doesn't answer. He doesn't even look up from his laptop. "If you don't tell me I am leaving!"
He looks up at me, still not answering and I am standing up.

 "How the fuck can you do this to me?" he asks and I turn around.

"How can I?! Are you kidding me?"

 "No" he simply states.

"I am not the one keeping secrets from you"

 I leave him, walking towards the bedroom, knowing he will go after me, at least hoping he will.
"I don't know everything about your life!" he says and I can see the anger in his eyes. Something must have happened when he was out. Where is that cute Niall I am falling for? Or have fallen for. The one who hugged me tight this very morning and kissed my forehead before I went back to sleep.
"I am not mysterious about my life" I contradict again. "You can ask me whatever you want"

 "That's not how I role. Addie—"

 "I'm leaving" I interrupt him.

"No, you aren't"

 The oven timer beeps and I walk pass him into the kitchen to get out the food. It smells delicious, but food is the last thing on my mind right now.
"Addie" he says behind me.
"You told me you would tell me what happened to your brother" I say, disappointed as I place the roasting dish on the counter and hangs back the potholders above the stove. "Don't I mean anything to you?"

 "You mean the most, you know that"
"Then why the fuck can't you even tell me?" I ask loud. I can't keep my voice down. "What do you think? I am going to live with you but you are still being this mysterious? I can't do that shit, Niall! It is not fair, I can't be your girlfriend and at the same time live with you and you keep your whole life away from me!"

 The doorbell rings and I sigh. I am not in the mood for company right now.
"Should I tell them to go?" he asks carefully and I shake my head, walking towards the door where a happy Louis and Gina stands.

 "Here, I can't—"Louis drops my bag at my feet. "What do you have in it? Rocks!?"
I smile and Gina helps me to get the suitcase into the bedroom. I won't unpack, since I don't know if I am staying.

Gina and I make up the table on the balcony and the food is delicious. Everyone thinks so and we sit out there for a while longer as the sun sink behind the buildings. Niall and I are making everything to be as mutual as possible, but I know that both Gina and Louis sees right through it.

 "Is everything okay with you and Niall?" she asks when we are putting the dishes into the dishwasher. Niall and Louis are in his office, they had to check something.

 "We, kind of, argued earlier" I sigh. "I guess we have a lot to talk about. He just won't tell me"
Gina stays silent.

 "Is Louis secretly about himself? Like mysterious?" I ask in a low voice, and she is giving it a thought.

 "Well, he doesn't tell me everything, but it is not supposed to be like that either... But then again, he is not as complicated as Niall"

 "No shit... Who is? I don't think I ever met a person who is like him... And yet, I have fallen for him so hard" Gina grins at me. "What?" I say. "Get the grin away" I smack her with one of the kitchen towels and she laughs.

"You are so in love! My best friend is in love!" she sings out loud. Loudly for the guys to hear.

 "So are my best friend" I sing back at her as the guys enter the kitchen again. I think I see a hint of a smile on Niall's lips.
"Are we having karaoke night?" Louis asks and drag Gina into his arms from behind and kisses her neck.

 I feel somewhat embarrassed that Niall and I don't do the same.
