Chapter thirty-eight.

I nervously pick at my nails as we awaits my family at the restaurant. Nate had texted me a couple of minutes ago that they were on their way, my mother was, of course, a little bit late. She is a bit of a time optimistic, while I am more like my father in that way. Always in time, preferably fifteen minutes earlier.

"You are going to destroy your fingers" Niall says calm and I stretch out my fingers just as the door opens and my family barge in. They find us, where we sit in the back corner and both Niall and I stand up.

"What a loving restaurant!" my dad says and kisses my cheek.

"Mum, dad, this is Niall" I hold my hand out at him. "Niall, this is my mother, Christine, my dad, Martin and my brothers Troy and Nate"

They all exchange handshakes before we all settle down at the table.

"Where is Leonie?"

"She was going to meet her aunt" Nate states as we start to look through the menu. The conversations rolls on and it is going pretty good. I see that my mother has a little bit hard time accepting Niall, but she just have to get to know him. He is an incredible human being, and I am glad to have him in my life.

"So, Niall. Do you have any siblings? What are you parents working with?" she tries and Niall clears his throat next to me.

"No, sadly my brother died in a car accident two years ago, and my father left us when I was a teenager..." he pauses with a moment of 'awe's from the others. "My mother owns her own restaurant on Manhattan"

I smoothly caress his leg under the table. I know this is hard for him.

"Sorry about your brother, my uncle died in a car accident too" my father looks at him with sympathy and Niall gives him a small smile.

I can actually see them in a couple of years, sitting on the bleachers of a soccer game, since both of them are fans of the sport.

Wait, what am I doing? Am I thinking of our future together? We have been together for like a month! I bet Niall is not thinking of our future.

The food arrives and Niall is discussing football with my dad and my brothers, as my mother and I make small talk.

"I saw Valarie"

"Yeah?" I don't actually care, because she doesn't answer to any of my message any longer, and why should I keep trying to reach out for her when she doesn't care?

"She is getting married!"

I choke on my coke, and I cough mutable times to get the lump in my throat, causing attention from the others. "What?"

"Yes, with Clay"

I frown at her and my mouth falls open. I don't know what to say. Clay is my ex-boyfriend. I didn't even know they were together. And now they are getting married?

"Okay..."

Niall brings up that he is playing a game in two days and that he could fix us some tickets and of course my father and brothers are on.

"Great! Then you will see how real soccer looks like" he jokes and right then his phone goes off. "Excuse me" he leaves us.

"He is really nice, I like him" my father says with a smile and I can't help but feel the pure pleasure as the corners of my lips turns upwards.

"He is cool" Troy says and take a zip from his coke. "I like his tattoos"

"Oh, no, you don't. Don't you dare" my mother says and I laugh.

Niall comes back in a few minutes.

"I'm sorry, but I have to go. It was really nice meeting you, and I am sorry. We'll see each other on Sunday, right?" he says quickly and I can barely register what he has said before he is out the door and I see his care drives off. Where is he going?

"That was kind of rude..." my mother says and I bite down my lip. What did just happened?
