Chapter 5

So there Robyn stood. In front of her bathroom mirror all fancied up. Makeup was plastered on her face like a Barbie doll's. She'd questioned society like this before shows in the circus. Should makeup really make a woman that much more attractive? Not very many men wore makeup. So why should she?

She brought her gaze slightly lower, to her breasts. And what was the use of freaking boobs? Sure, to feed infants, but otherwise useless. Why did men even like them? They were just lumps of fat on your chest. What made them important?

"Men are dicks." Robyn grumbled to herself before grabbing her cross-body purse and jacket. She made sure to lock her door before she left.

At the bar, all of the TVs were playing two different football games, and the few people engaged whooped and hollered whenever one of the teams scored.

Robyn chuckled to herself and shook her head at the rowdy customers all while refilling a mug for one of the men. She grabbed a beer bottle from the fridge in the back and brought the drinks to a rather lovely couple, welcoming their thanks.

As soon as Robyn wiped off the sticky counter, a familiar man strode in. Tall. Pudgy. He wore baggy, dirty clothes. Clunky work boots dragged beneath him.

Robyn quickly tried to hide herself from the man that caused her so much pain and ruined her life.

"Robyn?" His deep voice called out to her, "Is that you?" She mentally winced as she slowly faced him. Robyn quickly decided to play dumb and put on her best confused face.

"Sorry," she said, "I think you got the wrong person. Do I know you?"

"It's me- Gerimone?" He tried to hint her.

"Nope. Sorry. Doesn't ring a bell. Can I get something for you?" Robyn changed the subject as her knees grew weak in fear.

"Could I get a Bourbon?" He asked, almost eerily friendly...for him, anyway.

"Yeah! Coming up...." She made quick work of the drink, clinked it on the counter and escaped to the restrooms.

The door closed and Robyn shakily leaned on the counter. She felt trapped. She needed to get away from this... creature... this monster.

He'll get a few drinks and leave soon. No problem! He doesn't even know where I live! I'm going to be okay. I'll be fine. Yeah. It's going to be okay. She mentally reassured herself. Robyn let out one last shaky breath and walked out of the restroom with newfound confidence.

When Robyn saw Gerimone watching the football game and cheering with the other fans, she felt relieved. Maybe he'd changed. She felt the corners of her mouth twitch up.

After the football games had ended, most of the crowd had left, and Robyn had fifteen minutes left until her shift was over. Gerimone had also left. She served a few people who'd stopped by, only to get a bite to eat, then left quietly chattering amongst themselves.

Then her shift was over. Her boss had given her the keys to lock up for the night after everyone went home. Robyn grabbed her small purse and zipped her jacket on over it. Just to be safe. As soon as she stepped out into the dark alley, she was met with a familiar figure.

Her body was thrown to the other side of the alley, and collided with the rather welcoming brick wall (sarcasm intended).

"Don't play stupid with me, Robyn." Gerimone growled into her face, "I will always remember the way your eyes gleam when you're scared. Or when you tremble when you're nervous."
