Chapter 26
Tim introduced Robyn to his best friend, Conner Kent, whom she logically deduced as Superboy. He was built like a football player with the broad shoulders and large biceps. His hair was black and curly on top, the sides of his head shaven. Thick black-rimmed glasses bordered blue eyes. He was fairly tan and, oddly, seemed too glow. Maybe it was the lighting.
Conner was Kara's cousin. They both decided to go to the gala, as they were visiting another relative over in Metropolis.
"Who are you visiting, Superman?" Robyn joked. The three friends weren't laughing. "Shit, guys," she deadpanned.
As the night went on, Robyn danced more with Tim, drank a filling amount of champagne, and managed to keep wandering off to the food. The foursome was laughing and having a good time. Robyn felt refreshed for what felt like the first time in forever.
Tim also introduced her to Dick, Jason, Damian, and Cassandra. There seemed to be a growing trend with everyone she was meeting, with the exception of Kara. Everyone had black hair. She would've included blue eyes, but Jason's were grass green and Cassandra's were a dark, almost black, brown.
Robyn had met them all before. Tim was there to break the news to them and Robyn wanted to see their faces in person. Damian called Tim "the imbecile who fell in love with an idotic villain in the first place" and walked off with an eyeroll.
Then Robyn felt something in her mind turn. She felt like someone was watching her. She looked around her. Everyone seemed fine. Robyn brushed it off and went back to talking to her new friends (or, old enemies turned acquaintances).
Then she felt it again. Like the overwhelming feeling that someone was watching her, boring their eyes into her, and she could feel it. She felt her mind begin to run laps and make up stupid scenarios already. Her heart beat faster and her lungs wouldn't take in as much air as usual. Tim's hand on her hip felt heavy and she grasped it to make sure it was still there, and that it wasn't going anywhere. But when she looked up at everyone, she immediately stopped laughing at what Dick had just said.
Their faces were warped and their mouths gaped open like snake jaws and their eyes rolled back into their heads to turn a milky white. Their skin decayed and bugs were crawling everywhere. And the crowd, alm the rich people turned to stare at her simultaneously. They all had the same face. Gerimone's. They were all him. Only each person she saw was slightly more distorted than the other.
She was petrified. She couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. But her mind was running miles a minute. She was going to die. This was it. Gooseflesh spread over her as she tried to desperately rip her eyes off her nightmare, but she couldn't.
The loud, repetitive bangs scared Robyn into her senses and she crumpled to the ground, covering her ears as each Gerimone began running, screeching louder than anything she'd ever heard with mouths ripping open and showing yawning black holes. She screamed with them, rocking herself. She closed her eyes, but that was worse. The things were here for her. She forced her eyes back open to face the lesser of two horrors.
Something touched Robyn and then enveloped her. It was one of the creatures. She grabbed at a hand digging into her and clawed at it, she kicked at the thing, screaming and crying to get it to release her. She fell and ran from the crowd of creatures.
Robyn's lungs burned and her vocal chords were shot when she reached a pitch-black hallway. She didn't want to go, but she had to get away from the creatures. So she stepped in and ran. She ran with her hand on the wall. She ran until the wall disappeared and she was left standing in the pitch black and dreadfully silent hall. The combination consumed her. There was no sound. No light. She couldn't even hear her breathing. Just her painfully quick heartbeat.
Robyn gasped for air. She couldn't breathe. And her chest hurt. And something in the murky black and eerie silence was watching her. Preying on her. She ran. And she looked behind her. And kept running because she didn't see anything, but that didn't mean that the thing hunting her wasn't chasing her. She tripped over something and rolled her ankle. She fell and skidded. She was trapped. And the thing chasing her was coming. It was coming and she couldn't fight it. She was defenseless. She had nothing. She didn't have sight. She couldn't hear. She couldn't even cry out for help. Her breath quickened the closer it drew. She was goi g to die, oh God, she didn't want to die. Not now. Not like this.
And then, nothing.

Robyn woke up, her neck strained and her head pounding. She didn't open her eyes, but she lifted her heavy, cramped-up neck. It cracked when she stretched it. Slowly, she opened her eyes. She blinked away the fuzziness.
The first thing she saw waere brick walls. Confused, she tried to gain her bearings, but the more she looked around, the more confused she became. A table was on one side of the room and a door on the wall adjacent to the table. Other than that, nothing.
She felt an itch on her nose. She found she was rudely tied to the uncomfortable wooden chair with wide nylon straps.
"Hello?" Robyn called out. Her voice was hoarse, from what, she had no recollection. Nothing answered. She grumbled. The door slowly opened to reveal a shadow.
"I see you're awake," the figure said. From the voice, she guessed the person was male. He stepped forward a little. He wore a white labcoat and held a platter of something. As soon as she figured what was on the platter, the figure stepped forward.
Scarecrow.
