Chapter 21
"Miss Lancaster and Master Tim, Batman requested to see him as soon as possible." Alfred said, politely interrupting their companionable silence. Tim nodded as acknowledgement and gestured Robyn to follow him.
When they got to the giant computer, Batman turned around in his matching giant office chair. It seemed so dramatic, Robyn had to suppress a smirk forming on her lips.
"We've collected enough data to predict where Gerimone will be. For the past few days, he's been hanging around this general area." Batman pointed to what appeared to be an aerial view of Gotham, more specifically, close to where Robyn was living. There were multiple blue points on the map, showing where Gerimone had been, Robyn assumed.
"He seems to be staying over a few apartments from where you live, Robyn, so it should make baiting him that much easier." He continued. "Second, I want to show you your new suit you'll be using for this mission. Follow me." Batman stood from his chair and started up a flight of stairs. Robyn followed, excited, and Tim wasn't far behind.
When they reached the top, she saw multiple tubes of many kinds of suits. The first Robin suit, Nightwing's disco-suit, Batgirl's first suit. Batman snapped her out of her thoughts when he held a large cardboard box in his hands.
"Is this...?" Robyn's question trailed off and Batman nodded slightly, handing her the box. She almost dropped it, it was so heavy, so she decided to put it on the ground. She opened the top and she couldn't believe her eyes.
Her suit was a dark green and gray paneled vest and a heavier three-quarters-sleeve navy blue kevlar shirt underneath. Her black cargo pants were kevlar-reinforced and had many pockets on either leg. Her black gloves were skin-tight and breathable at the same time. She also had a pair of dark green and navy combat boots. Her mask was a dark gray hood that was attached to the vest and a black domino mask with lenses, probably for missions and data when on patrol.
But, even with a suit, Robyn felt something missing.
"Alright," she clapped her hands once and rubbed them together, "Weapons." Tim chuckled and shook his head.
"No guns," Batman said, "But I heard you use throwing knives." Robyn nodded.
"Guns are overrated," she smirked.
"You should be able to use Batarangs, then," he finished, ignoring Robyn's previous input. It took a moment for her to let what Batman had just said sink in. Her jaw slowly dropped.
"No way. You- Batman- Batarangs are, like, strictly Batfamily materials. You're going to let me use some, me, a thief, use some of the Batarangs?" Robyn stuttered. Batman's indifferent expression didn't let her read if he was joking or not, but the slight nod of his head said otherwise.
"That is so freaking cool!" She ran up to Tim and shook his shoulders. "Did you hear that? Today is the best day of my life." She babbled. Robyn looked back at Batman, and she could've sworn she saw the slightest quirk on his lips before he dismissed Tim and Robyn and left. Robyn picked up the box her suit was in.
"We can spar in these suits and I can show you how your mask works." Tim paused and smiled. "I can also show you how to throw Batarangs."
~•*•~
Robyn's knees hit the floor in exhaustion. She lowered herself down to the cool cave's floor and rested for a moment.
"I finally did it." She mumbled. "I finally got you down."
"That was after how many tries?" Tim sassed back. He looked like he wasn't even that tired. He probably wasn't, being a hero and all.
"How are you not exhausted?" Robyn panted in bewilderment.
Tim shrugged, "Training and missions, I guess."
Robyn sighed and laid there for a few moments, regaining what little strength and energy she had left. Finally, she decided to get up after basking in her sweaty uniform.
She rolled to her back and made grabby hands while looking at Tim. "Help me up." Tim sighed and pulled her up, but he didn't stop there. His arm hit the back of her knees and he swept her up like she weighed nothing. Robyn tensed, not expecting him to pick her up, but butterflies erupted and she mentally sighed.
"Okay," she muttered and relaxed into his arms as he began to walk them over to where the living quarters were. Tim chuckled.
"Shower and get some rest. We're heading out later tonight." Tim said and lowered her to her feet by her door. Robyn nodded, stripping her mask and gloves. They stood in awkward silence for some time, not knowing what to do or say and instead stared stupidly at each other.
"Well," Robyn finally gained her senses, "I better do that. Don't wanna be too tired when we're out tonight. Rest is essential." Tim nodded and waved with a small smile. Robyn waved back and closed her door. Sleep is essential?! Robyn, what in the absolute fuck were you thinking! What! The fuck! You can't say stuff like that! He'll think you're absolutely stupid! What the fuck! Throw up all over him next time, why don't you! Goddammit, you! Robyn yelled at herself as soon as the door closed. She face-palmed and grabbed the clothes she wore earlier that day and walked into the bathroom to shower.
She wanted to yell at herself some more, but her mind wandered to Tim. Did he like her that way, maybe? He let her sleep on him. He went out of his way to talk to her and train her on a day off. Then he picks her up with no explanation? Then again, nearly a week ago he stormed out of the infirmary when he really found out who she was. And he wouldn't let her beat him when they were sparring or training. He left before Robyn woke up earlier that morning. His feelings could be purely platonic....
Ugh! Why were her emotions so... confusing?
