Chapter 32

Robyn and Tim made their way, fingers intertwined, down to the dining room for breakfast -- a feast of waffles and bacon and eggs and assorted fruits.

Bruce waked by, a newspaper and a cup of coffee in hand, as they were eating and told the pair to meet him in the cave when they were finished. Robyn was pleasantly surprised; she'd never thought she'd ever see Bruce wear a pair of plaid pajama bottoms matched with a dark gray robe, and even fuzzy slippers on his feet. She never thought she'd ever see him so dressed down, and, dare she say it, relaxed. Being Batman and Bruce Wayne must be nerve-wracking, anxiety-inducing. If she knew all that Bruce knew what was going on in the city, nation, world, and even universe, around her, she'd be a hot mess. She was already a hot mess by just dealing with her own problems. She was truly impressed by Bruce and how put together he still was even after all of the superhero plus Wayne Enterprises CEO weight bore down on him.

So when Tim and Robyn finished breakfast, they slowly made their way to the cave entrance, which, by the way, was a giant, old grandfather clock. Before he pushed it into the wall, Tim kissed Robyn. Robyn kissed back, winding her arms around Tim's neck and pulling the pair closer. Tim wrapped his arms around her waist and back, as if to hold her close, like if he were to let Robyn any looser, she'd slip away and disappear forever.

The sound of someone clearing their throat interrupted them.

"I would appreciate it if you two would suck faces somewhere other than in front of the cave's entrance," Damian deadpanned with his arms folded across his chest.

"Shut up, you're just mad you don't have a girlfriend, either," Tim retorted, not taking his eyes off Robyn.

"Wrong, I could care less about your lee- your girlfriend. Father called me down to the cave. I'm just following orders, like a good son should," Damian spat back and rolled his eyes.

"For once," Tim muttered.

"What the hell did you just say to me, Drake?" Damian snapped threateningly.

"Oh, I'm sure you heard. You sure are doing a great job resisting those assassin urges. Progress, I'd say," Tim said smugly.

"I will fucking deck you, right here, right now. Try me, Drake," Robyn could almost see steam rolling out of Damian's ears. He closed his eyes for a moment and his lips were moving. "You know what, you're too easy to take down. Not even worth a try."

Damian pushed past Tim and Robyn and stormed down the cave's stairs. Robyn pinched Tim.

"Ow! What was that for?" Tim yelped.

"That was for instigating a fight. It was uncalled for," Robyn scolded. They were making their way down the stairs.

"It's too easy to push his buttons, though, you gotta admit."

"I don't know your brother that well. And from the looks of it, he probably vould have kicked your ass." Robyn earned a push to the side. "It's true!" She laughed.

"You wouldn't know, you haven't met him!"

"I would take 'trained assassin' over 'dorky detective nerd' any day."

"It's the same debate as the 'brains over brawn'. I'd go for brains any day." Robyn scoffed and pushed him back.

"That's because you're Gotham's supergenius superhero. Like, the ultimate brain minus the superpowers. The ultimate super nerd."

"How flattering," Tim laughed and grabbed Robyn's hand, intertwining their fingers. Their hands swung in time with their footsteps as they approached Bruce at his Batcomputer (Tim told Robyn that Dick named everything in the Batcave with the "bat" prefix, i.e.: Batarangs, Batmobile, and even the Batchair). Damian was already there. If he was a cat, he'd be all puffed up and growling. Specifically at Tim. Especially and exclusively at Tim. It was actually quite entertaining to witness.

Tbe mood deliberately changed when she saw the look on Bruce's face.

"There was no trace of any of Scarecrow's fear toxin in your blood. Unless his experiments somehow changed your brain's chemicals to force you to react, I'd say he trained your subconscous override your conscious to react to the toxin when in contact with it," Bruce informed. Robyn nodded.

"So, what, are you gonna run an MRI on me?" Robyn asked. Bruce shook his head with a light chuckle.

"We took most of the toxins Scarecrow developed so we could break down what they were made of so we could make an antidote." It clickedin Robyn's mind. She was wary about it, but it was actually not a bad idea. "We still have small amounts of those toxins here. How willing would you be to see if we could test to see how you react, first, if you even react?"

"Yeah, sure," Robyn puffed out and squeezed Tim's hand. He looked at her skeptically.

"You sure?" He asked, and Robyn reassured him with a deep breath and a nod.

"I mean, how else are we gonna know how -- if -- I react to the toxins without a brain scan?" Tim still looked unsure.

"If you react like last time, you could get hurt," he said, looking right at Damian, who shrugged with a scoff.

Robyn looked at Bruce, "So you're just gonna let me run loose when I get a lungful of the toxins? Letting me put your guys' safety on the line? 'Cause I remember you telling me what I did to Jason."

"Lord, no. We're strapping you down. I know that none of us wants to get hurt, so I feel that this is for the best for all of us." Bruce stated and stood up from his chair, "Are you sure you're okay with this?" Robyn replied with a nod. "Okay. You two," Bruce looked at Tim and Damian, "take Robyn to the infirmary. I'll grab Jason and we'll get started."

With that, Bruce walked away, leaving the trio to make their way to the infirmary.
