Chapter 24

Cooper was released from the hospital two agonizingly long days later. To fill her time waiting for him, Robyn scouered newspapers and websites for a new job. She had lists of names, addresses, positions, and pay. Robyn would worry about narrowing down positions after she picked as many as she could that piqued her interest.

As soon as she got the call from Cooper, she dropped everything and rushed across the hall to his place. Cooper opened the door as soon as Robyn banged on the door excitedly. They smiled stupidly at each other before embracing.

"How do you feel?" Robyn asked, pulling away and inspecting his still-bruised face. He looked better than when she'd seen him last.

"I'm on pain meds for my concussion and bright lights and loud noises still hurt. Other than that, I feel a lot better." Cooper replied. "Come on in." He stepped aside and shut the door behind Robyn. She sat on his couch.

"So how are you holding up?" She asked.

Cooper sat down next to her, "I already told you, I'm better."

"That isn't what I meant." Cooper was silent, head bowed. "You have to do something about him."

"I... I can't." He stuttered quietly. "I know I shouldn't love him because of what he did to me. Of what he's doing to me. But he won't let me leave. I tried to break up with him. I really did. But that's when...." Cooper gestured to his head and frowned. Robyn knew what was coming next.

"I can't- I'm stuck. And God, I'm so scared." As soon as she heard ths crack in his voice, Robyn wrapped her arms around him. She pulled him close to her and Cooper wrapped his arms around her waist tightly. He trembled violently as he cried. Robyn sushed him gently.

She knew what it felt like to be this scared. She knew what it was like to not be able to get away. Slowly, her soothing coos became sobs and they were both crying into each other's arms.

Eventually, Cooper looked up at her. He wiped his eyes.

"Why-," he had to clear his throat and sniffle a little. "Why are you crying?" Robyn paused and sniffled, wiping her eyes.

"Because you and I are fighting the same problem," she giggled a little. She didn't know why. It just bubbled up and burst out of her. Cooper smiled a weary smile. Then he snickered. And then they were both laughing and crying at the same time.

Finally, when they were all cried out, Robyn and Cooper untangled themselves from each other.

"I'm so happy I met you." Cooper said, grinning.

"I love you, Cooper." She smiled and winked.

"I hope you mean platonically, because you'd be hugely disappointed."

"Whatever, you idiot." She playfully nudged him in the ribs. Then Robyn remembered something and gasped dramatically. "Cooper, you'll never guess what happened to me."

"Uh oh. What happened?"

"I got invited to the Wayne Enterprises Winter Gala!" She squeaked.

"Oh. My. God. When is it? Can I help you get ready? Please tell me Dick Grayson is going."

"One, it's on December fourth. Two, I would be a bitch if I wouldn't let you help me. And I bet Dick Grayson will be there. He's freaking Bruce Wayne's adopted son."

"Fuck yes. Do you need a dress? Wait, that was stupid. Of course you do. And new shoes. And why not splurge on some makeup? When are you free?" Cooper asked, practically on the edge of his seat and in Robyn's face.
