[Ed's View]

When I woke up, it seemed about 9 or 10 am. The sun was shining through my window and practically blinded me.

Winry was curled up and was leaning into my chest, breathing ever so lightly. I gently got up, being careful not to wake Winry.

I went downstairs and started reading that alchemy book Roy got me. When I got to the 24th page, an envelope fell out. I picked it up.

From Mustang, probably. Why didn't he tell me it was inside? Maybe there's another birthday gift inside! Money maybe???

I opened it in excitement. I pulled out the insides. Then sighed.

Just a letter...

I unfolded the sheet of paper then read it to myself.

Hi Full Metal.

Happy birthday, once again. But this letter isn't a birthday card.

I have secretly given you this letter for a reason, so be careful and conceal it. Don't let Winry especially see this. I would've coded this message, just in case either Winry, one of the homunculi or other would lay eyes on this not, but I couldn't be bothered. Someone would've decoded it anyway. Back to the point.

The homunculi are on to you. The eventually tracked you down through your phone call to your brother, I believe. Lieutenant and I found an underground tunnel that might be linked to them, but I made sure that you were the first to know about it.

You have got 2 choices, Full Metal.

One is to return to Central and investigate your only lead to returning your bodies.

Two is to ignore it and risk losing Winry. I know they are after her.

What will you choose, Full Metal?

I'll meet you in the Central library in 3 days from now if you choose to investigate. I'll be waiting.

Best regards,

Flame.

As I read the last sentence, I hear light footsteps coming down the stair case. I quickly hid the letter and it's envelope under the couch pillow, for the time being.

Winry stepped into view.

"Hey babe!" I greeted her.

She rubbed her eyes tiredly.

"Hey," She went up to me and hugged me. I hugged her back. Tighter than usual. "I'm gonna have a shower. K?" She alerted me.

"Sure," I replied.

She started walking back up the stair case.

"Winry?" I said. She stopped in her tracks and looked at me blankly.

"You know that I love you, right? No matter what happens, I will always love you." I wanted to let her know. I didn't have an answer for Mustangs request at that time, but just in case I said yes, had to let her know.

She looked blankly at me for a couple seconds, then smiled one of her sweetest smiles.

"I already know that, silly! And I love you too," She started continuing upstairs. "And you don't forget that either, Mr. State Alchemist!" She said sassily before disappearing completely into the second floor.

After she disappeared upstairs again, I quickly grabbed the note and ran upstairs.

What will I do? I can't just leave Winry; after I promised that I'm here to stay. But I can't let this chance slip away. No. I will go. I also promised Al that we would get our bodies back. And that promise is more important.
