[Ed's View]
She closed her eyes tightly, crinkling her nose in the most adorable way. She looked so cute with her hair out and an orange scarf wrapped thickly around her neck. I could feel my cold cheeks warm up as I blushed.
She opened her eyes again. Her blue eyes sparkled like the stars above.
"What did you wish for?" I asked happily.
"That's for me to know and for you to never find out. Wishes don't come true if you tell people what it was," She protested. I laughed.
"Fair enough,"
She snuggled closer to me.
"Face the other way for a second," She ordered. I turned and faced away from her.
She started combing my hair with hair fingers, and then started to plat it. I let her. After a few silent minutes, she broke the calm silence.
"What do you think about god?" She asked as she continued playing with my hair.
"Hmm... Not sure. As an alchemist I don't really believe in all that. After all, alchemy is science," I admitted. And even I knew that just because you believe science can prove all, doesn't necessarily mean that I don't believe in god. I didn't really know how to put my feelings into words. "Why do you ask?"
"Just wondering..." She replied. Her voice trailed off. She was thinking about something. "What do you think happens when people die?" Her voice shook in the slightest.
With these words she unintentionally forced me to think about mom. Or what use to be mom.
"They sleep forever...? I don't know..." I chuckled. I didn't usually think about this stuff. "What's wrong? You seem upset," I turned to face Winry again. Her big blue eyes were filled with tears.
I pulled her closer. "What's the matter?" I gently wiped away the salty tears from her eyes.
"What if you don't return? What if... What if you... What if something bad happened?" She said, clearly trying to avoid the word 'die'.
"Don't worry. I'll return home safe and sound with a normal body, same as Al. Nothing bad is going to happen and no one is going d-" I, for Winry's sake, avoided the word 'die'. "Get hurt," I finished.
"I love you," she whispered.
"I love you too," I said as I pulled her closer.
I stroked her beautiful blonde hair. We curled up under the covers to protect ourselves from the cold breeze that whisked past. Soon, Winry fell asleep. I carried her back inside, careful not to wake her as I jumped down to the balcony.
I rested her in bed and once again embraced her from beneath the covers. With every second that ticked past, the time for us to part drew closer and closer.
