Part 44 - Into the Tunnel

[Ed's View]

The following day, I walked to the Central library. I walked in and started looking around for Mustang.

I eventually found him right in the back of the building. He noticed me before I said anything.

"You came?" He seemed surprised.

"What does it look like?" I replied.

I have to deal with this guy for a few days? Unbelievable...

"So... where we heading?" I asked.

"We can go straight to the tunnel or we can go have breakfast," He said. He seemed to be in a strange mood. He was acting...different. He wasn't making smart remarks or expressing his love for mini skirts or none of that mess.

"Two guys having breakfast in the city together? I don't think so," I said.

He should be the one saying that. He wouldn't want to have breakfast with another male ever.

"Okay, then let's go Ed" He walked passed me and started heading for the exit.

Ed? He always calls me Fullmetal. Especially if we're in public.

I followed him, eyeing him suspiciously.

This is not Mustang.

I followed him down the street, left, right, right, down and left when we got to a dark, stone staircase leading down to an empty tunnel. A broken metal gate was tangled in the weeds to the side of the top of the stairs. It looked so sus.

"Mustang" walked down the stairs without hesitation. I followed.

I'm right. This isn't Mustang. The Mustang I know would be cautious and check if the coast is clear. No. This must be that guy Envy, the homunculus that can change his appearance and voice to seem like a completely different person.

We walked into the empty tunnel. It was dark and the drip-dropping of sewage water echoed throughout the tunnel. "Mustang" got an unlit torch and some matches that lay on the concrete ground.

"How convenient," He said.

He lit the torch with the matches.

Definitely not Roy. He would've shown off and used his alchemy to light the torch.

"Why didn't you use your alchemy to light that?" I asked,trying to seem oblivious.

"If I create too much noise someone might hear me. Clicking my fingers, I mean," He said. He covered up good.

"So, where's Riza?" I asked, trying to confirm my prediction. Hopefully he would slip up or something, exposing his true appearance.

"She got sick last night somehow," He said. "Came down with a cold. She's bed ridden," He grinned.

100% not Roy.

"So you left Winry?" He said turning to face me.

"Yeah..." I said, feeling guilty and disappointed.

I wonder how she's doing...

I decided to keep my mouth shut for the time being. I didn't want Envy knowing that I knew that was him.

We walked in silence.
