Chapter eleven
A month had passed since I had last heard from Becca or Harry. He avoided me just like I did; I was ashamed of what I had done with him. Becca on the other hand hadn't showed up to school either since the fight. It was ridiculous and I was ready to move on however not even Jenny or Emily were talking to her. She had officially shut everybody out of her life; it was like she had never existed at this school.
"Babe." Niall smiled into my neck from behind.
"Hey" I smiled turning around and pecking him on the lips. Being with Niall made me happy; sure he never made my heart skip a beat like Harry but I could trust him. And with prom right around the corner and Becca out of the way there was no way I wouldn't be crowned prom queen.
"I thought tonight we could work on prom queen and king posters." He said sitting down at our lunch table. Also another amazing thing about Niall, I knew he wanted prom king and queen just as much as me.
"Sure. My house an hour after school?" I suggested. It gave us enough time for both of us to get ready.
"I'll see you then." He kissed my check before heading off to football practise.
Since I was now sat alone I took out my phone and opened Becca's contact.
SCARLETT: ARE YOU OKAY?
I hovered over the send button before deleting the whole text and settled with texting Mandy, a girl from cheerleading, to see if she wanted to come over and have lunch.
A lot had happened in a month. Emily had begun to hang out with a head cheerleader Kate Michael ever since she tried out for cheerleading. Jenny on the other hand was distant since I told her about how I chose Niall. She was convinced I was meant to be with Harry but as long as I was happy she would support me. We all drifted apart because (and I hate to admit it) but Becca was the glue to this group.
"Hey, Scar!" Mandy's obnoxiously high pitched voice squealed, "Guess what I found last night!"
"What?" I imitated her level of excitement.
"My prom dress!" we both squealed, "its ombre pink and floor length..." I zoned out and began to think about how I forgot to look for prom dresses.
I whipped out my phone and sent a text to both Jenny and Emily.
SCARLETT: PROM DRESS SHOPPING TOMMOROW??
I felt like this would be a perfect way for us to reconnect.
EMILY: CAN WE NOT DO IT TODAY? I'M BUSY TOMORROW.
SCARLETT: OH. I HAVE PLANS WITH NIALL BUT AFTER? AND OH LA LA WHO WITH?
EMILY: A FRIEND HAHA
JENNY: SURE TONIGHT SOUNDS GOOD. MEET IN TOWN?
EMILY: SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN.
SCARLETT: I MISSED YOU GIRLS XXI turned off my phone with a goofy smile on my face; which quickly evaporated when I saw a ginger haired girl on Harry's lap kissing his neck. He had a smirk plastered on his face which similarly disappeared when he saw me.
I knew it was selfish but I didn't want him to be with anyone else. Even though I was with Niall it made me so jealous to see him with a skank on his lap.
"What's wrong?" Mandy asked.
"Nothing I'm fine." I sighed as I stood up and she followed me out like a lost puppy.
The day passed quickly and I couldn't get the image of Harry and the other girl out of my head. Even though I was currently with Niall working on prom posters.
"Scarlett?" Niall asked for my attention, "Have you ever thought of our first time?"
"Yes." I lied. It hadn't popped into my head once.
"I wanted your first time to be special." He stroked my hand, "After we win, we could go back to mine. I'll put candles everywhere and music and I promise I'll go slow and make you feel safe."
I was scared. Even though I knew I had to lose it eventually and Niall would make it special but something was holding me back.
"Okay." I stuttered kissing him softly. Before things could get overly heated I stopped us, "I'm meeting the girls."
"I'll drop you off." He offered picking up my bag and his jacket. I quickly changed out of my school uniform into my blue jeans and white crop top with white converse.
I said goodbye to Niall and hello to the girls who were already looking at the dresses. Things between us remained slightly awkward due to the fact we hadn't talked to each other in month.
"Here. I thought this would look perfect on you." Jenny handed me a baby pink floor length dress. It was a darker yet still soft pink at the top that was sleeveless however the sleeves were a see through material. The top half was covered in a pink orchid. At the waist there was a belt with a flower on it. The lower it got the more the dress matched the top halves pink.
"Jenny! You took all the fun out of dress shopping!" I giggled, "no way I could ever top this dress."
"Sorry, babes!" Jenny laughed entering a changing room.
As soon as I tried it on I knew that this was the dress. It was a moment like on 'Say yes, to the dress!' because I couldn't imagine myself in any other.
Jenny settled for a sapphire blue, sleeveless dress; it was simple yet elegant. On the other hand Emily went for a black floor length dress with a small black cloak on the shoulders. The dressed showed her cleavage off perfectly.
"Okay so celebratory coffee?" I asked once we had all payed.
"Sure." Emily smiled.
We ended up in Starbucks and talked through our issues like Becca.
"I haven't even seen her since your fight." Emily sighed.
"I think it's for the best. She didn't have our best interests." Jenny admitted.
"I love you both so much." Tears began running down my face. I had forgotten how it felt to just have friends; and it had been longer than a month. It had been years since things had been as simple as friendship.
