Chapter eight
"Table for four?" I say politely to the waitress. She nods and points me towards the three girls already sat at the table with four diet cokes in front of them. Once I sat down and said our hellos I took a sip from my drink they had ordered for me wincing at the taste.
"Jesus!" We all laughed. Since we were underage one of us (usually Becca) would sneak in a flask of vodka to put in our drink for a kick. It was a Sunday tradition of ours to go out for brunch. "I need some blueberry pancake." I declared putting down the menu.
I ordered the pancakes like Emily, Becca got a caesar salad and Jenny got a waffle with cream.
"Okay I need to say something." Becca blurted as if she couldn't keep it in any longer, "I know that you're talking to that Harry kid." She scoffed.
"Who's Harry?" Emily asked suspiciously.
"He goes to our school." I mutter playing with my straw.
"And is he on the football team?" Becca asks as if she doesn't already know. "No? Oh well he must be an emo. No, no a nerd!" she clapped her hands pretending to be excited before her eyes turned cold and was dangerously close to me. "I'm just saying I wouldn't do anything stupid... No one wants to see you end up as the lamest girl in school, because that's what you would be if this information got out."
"Becca." Jenny warned.
"Fine." I snarled at her, "I won't talk to him anymore."
"Awesome!" Emily smiled trying to eliminate the tension.
"How are we meant to trust you?" Becca rolled her eyes.
"I don't know maybe because we've been best friends for years?" I couldn't believe her right now. What does she want from me?
"Call him and let him know." She rose her eyebrow testing our friendship by telling me exactly what I was going to say to him.
I looked at Jenny and Emily who both avoided my gaze.
"Fine!" I pick up my phone dialling Harry's number. Something flickered in Becca's eyes as she holds my hand sympathetically mouthing "you're doing the right thing".
"Hello?" his raspy voice said down the phone.
"Harry, hey." My stomach churned. I had no idea how I had let my feelings for him escalate so much. It hurt to think that this would be the last time I spoke to him and that after today he would hate me.
"So is there a reason you woke me up?" he chuckled. Tears threatened to spill in my eyes. Jenny shook her head.
"You only just woke up? It's one in the afternoon" I laughed softly before getting back to the point, "I was wondering if you wanted to meet me for dinner tonight?"
"What?" He asked in surprise, "Aren't you with Niall?"
"We broke up." I lied, "so are you in or not?"
"I'll pick you up at seven?" I could almost hear him smirk through the phone.
"It's okay, I'll see you there." I lied once again; because I wasn't going to be there. Nobody would.
"Happy now?" I said after I hung up.
We all went back to Emily's house for a sleepover and it was an hour before I was supposed to see Harry and it killed me to think that he would hate me.
"Sorry I have to take this." Jenny said standing up. "Yes this is Jenifer St James. What? No that's impossible! I'll be right there."
She rushed all her things in her bag crying, shaking her head violently.
"Jenny, what's wrong?" I spoke softly placing my hand on her shoulder.
"I-It's my dad. He was in a car accident" we all gasped, "I need to go"
"I'll drive you." I offered since she was so shaken up.
"I need to do this on my own." She said running out the door.
*Jenny's pov*
As if he was late! I lie to my friends about my dad almost dying all for Scarlett. Her face looked so hurt at the thought of losing Harry and as her best friend I took it into my own hands to make sure she didn't.
The doors to the restaurant opened to see a Harry in black skinny jeans and a white button up top. Once he saw me he turned the other direction and walked away. Dick.
"Hey!" I yelled running behind him.
"Did she send you? Because if she wanted to cancel that bad she could've just texted." He rolled him eyes obviously irritated.
"Jesus! Stop walking and listen to me!" He finally stopped to face me. "Thank you. So do you like Scarlett?"
"This is stupid, I'm leaving."
"No you're not." I stood in his way again. He sighed loudly before speaking.
"Yes okay?" he looked down at me, "I care about her. Now why isn't she here?"
I let the whole story spill out from how she was forced into this.
"So she's still with Niall." He sighed.
"I doubt Becca will be okay with her dumping him to be honest." I pondered for a second for a solution. "But I'm sure we can find a solution."
"We?" he laughed looking at me.
"Yeah, we." I couldn't help but laugh back. "For Harlett."
"Harlett?"
"Yeah. Harry and Scarlett. Harlett."
So we stayed up all night brain storming ideas on how to get them both together.
