"What is it gonna take for you to keep your mouth shut?" Angie demanded, slamming the patient door closed behind her and Alex. She had distractedly told her mother to meet her at Richard's office before dragging her infuriating, dumbstruck coworker into the first door with a lock she could find.

"Simone Kensington's daughter...you're Simone Kensington's daughter..." Alex breathed, leaning against the examination bed.

"Karev—" Angie tried to pull him from his stupor.

"Oh, God, Simone Kensington's daughter hates me, which means Simone Kensington hates me, which means my freakin' career is done. How is my career done so fast?"

Angie rolled her eyes, lowering herself into the stool near the counter. "Will you calm down? Your career is not—"

"I can go to Canada," Alex resolved himself with a desolate nod. "It's only intern year. I can start over and rebuild there. Canada has a decent plastics industry, right?"

"Oh my god, will you shut up?" Angie snapped, finally drawing his attention. "Your career is not over, you're not moving to Canada, and you're not becoming a plastic surgeon because they're all arrogant assholes." Angie paused, thinking. "On second thought, maybe plastics is perfect for you. Whatever, the point is, take a breath and stop whining. My mother is not a career ruiner."

Alex studied Angie for a moment, his eyes narrowing suspiciously. "And what about you?" he demanded slowly. Angie could only snort incredulously.

"Yes, because everyone will respect the intern who starts throwing around her mommy's name to get ahead," she drawled. "Look, unlike you, I'm not interested in blackmail or leverage or any of that. I want to keep my head down and earn anything I get, free of nepotism or bias. What do I have to do to make sure that keeps happening?"

Alex fell silent, watching Angie for a long second, his gaze full of curiosity. Angie raised an eyebrow, watching him back. When he was silent for almost a minute, she shrugged with an impatient huff. "Look, I have a lot going on right now, so an answer would be nice. What do you want? Money? I'll try to get the nurses to stop calling you Peter Pervert, but they all really hate you, so I can only do so much and—"

"You're serious?" Alex cut in suddenly. "You'd rather pay me off than have everyone know you're a Kensington? You're that ashamed?"

Immediate irritation flared in Angie's chest, and her face hardened. "I'm not 'ashamed' of anything, you dick. Let's get that straight right now. I love my parents more than anything in the world. But I can love them as their daughter and still want to exist as a surgeon on my own. If you think that's some mind-boggling concept, that's a 'you' problem."

"Anyone else in this hospital would be jumping at the chance to use their family connections."

"I'm not 'anyone else'."

Alex raised his brows, huffing out a disbelieving laugh. He shook his head, slowly pacing the room. "Let me guess," he began dryly. "Grey and Yang know, too?"

"Is the sky blue?"

Alex rolled his eyes, then stopped his pacing, dropping his hands to his sides as he turned to face Angie with a huff. "Alright, let me make this clear: I still don't like you."

Angie grinned daringly, tilting her head. "Fun. I don't like you either."

"You're a smartass—"

"You are the worst chauvinist I've ever met—"

"And you're a spoiled brat—"

"You wouldn't know humility if it beat you with a lead pipe—"

"And you're kind of a massive bitch."
