Chapter 3

Hiccup finally arrived at the doorstep of Heather's house. If he wanted Astrid to really think that their relationship was threatened, he had to make an effort to like Heather. Hiccup took his mission very seriously and so, before going to Heather's house, he dressed up in his fanciest clothes from the finest silk on Berk. He knocked on Heather's door, hesitantly at first, hoping that Heather would accept his invitation.

As the door opened, Hiccup saw Heather and they both smiled.

"Oh hey Hiccup, What are you doing here?" she asks.

"Well, I was thinking that since you just moved here, that I should show you around Berk. It's the proper thing that the chief of Berk should do," Hiccup replied cheerfully and smiled.

Heather didn't return his smile and said, "That's very sweet Hiccup, but my family and I moved to Berk a couple of months ago actually." Hiccup looked confused. Really, he thought. "We were flying our dragons together yesterday." Hiccup tried to remember but couldn't. Heather could clearly see his confusion so continued, "I was flying right next to you, along with Astrid. Don't you remember?" Heather asked, raising her eyebrows.

Hiccup didn't remember Heather there when he, Astrid, and the other dragon riders flew their dragons yesterday. It was probably because Astrid was there. His thoughts were full of Astrid at that time, they still are. And her thoughts were full of him, until Ryder came along and ruined everything.

Hiccup continued staring blankly at Heather. He was sort of sorry that he didn't remember ever seeing Heather before on Berk. But he didn't want to seem rude so he pretended he did.

"Of course, I remember. I was just..." Think Hiccup, think. He sighed, looking at the floor. "I was just trying to find an excuse to hang out with you," he finally said. That was partially true.

"Oh Hiccup, you want to hang out with me?" Heather asked, quite in shock. She was pretty surprised that Hiccup asked her to "hang out" since he has never asked before since she moved to Berk.

"I was thinking, maybe, we could walk around Berk. I was thinking we could walk along the beach and talk," he suggested. The beach was a nice stop to talk, but it was also the stop close to the dock where Astrid could see him with Heather.

As he looked back up to Heather, she was staring into his eyes, smiling. Heather's cheeks were flushed. Was she blushing? Heather remained silent so Hiccup continued. "Oh, and maybe even a picnic too?" Hiccup paused, waited for Heather's reply. When she didn't say anything, he just asked, "What do you think?"

Heather looked dazed when staring at Hiccup-he thought she wasn't even paying attention- but came out of the daze when he asked the final question. Suddenly-without Heather thinking-she bowed down to Hiccup and said, "Oh, Hiccup, it'll be an honor to have a picnic with you on the beach." She kept her head down in embarrassment as Hiccup saw red brushed onto her cheeks.

Hiccup had no idea where that came from or why, but decided to go along. At least Heather wont have to feel embarrassed if we both last like fools. Hiccup cleared his voice and said, in his most sophisticated voice ever, "So thrilled you accepted lady Heather, but I prefer All Mighty Chief of Berk, or Leader of the Best Island in the World better than just Hiccup."
