Hey, it's Vanessa. Just wanted to tell you that the this chapter and the next chapter will be a little smaller than what my chapters usually are because I wanted "The Date" to be split into three parts. Vote and comment if you like and want more. I won't be posting regularly because the new chapters are still in works so follow me if you want to be notified when I do post the new chapters. This one will leave you on a little cliffhanger. Hope you are enjoying the book and happy reading!

This made Hiccup even more angry. The possibilities of where Astrid and Ryder could've gone to were infinite. But Hiccup thought to himself that if Astrid could have a good time with a guy and figured that it was alright then Hiccup can do the same. He continued his "hang out" with Heather as if nothing was wrong.

Hiccup and Heather had their picnic on the beach, walked around Berk, watched the sun set and the stars shine, lied down on the grass and talked all night. Hiccup didn't even mention Astrid once in their conversation, as if she never existed.

The time passed by really quickly that and their "hang out" lasted until pretty late at night. It started to get cold so they went to Hiccup's house. After his father's death, he lived alone. His mother was barely around due to all her dragon expeditions. Hiccup showed her around his house and Heather noticed there were very many portraits of his father.

Heather saw Toothless and started to pet him when she saw Hiccup in front of one specific portrait of him and his father and started to tear up.

"I could've tried harder to be a better son. I could've saved him. I just miss him so much," Hiccup said unexpectedly.

Heather walked towards him and stood behind him. She hugged him from behind as Hiccup looked at the same portrait. "Hiccup, it's not your fault. You were the perfect son and your father was so proud of you," Heather comforted.

"Not true." There was a pause as Hiccup wiped his tears, then continued, "I never told this to anyone but once, I heard my dad talk to Gobber about how I was just too different from everyone else. He would've wanted someone better to be the chief," Hiccup said as tears fell down his cheeks. "He was right though. I'm not cut out to be the chief of Berk. I can't do anything, I only make things worse," Hiccup said, practically sobbing.

Heather took both his shoulders and turned him to face her so their faces were only inches apart and said, "Hiccup, I won't believe that. Your father was always so proud to call you his son. You did something remarkable that any father would be proud of." Heather paused for a moment and moved her hands from Hiccup's shoulders to his cheeks. "You are the best son anyone could ask for, the best chief anyone could ask for and the best friend anyone could ask for." As Heather stopped talking, a tear made its way down Hiccup's cheek. Heather caught it with her thumb and wiped it away.

"You're remarkable, Hiccup." There was a moment of silence where the two vikings just stood in front of each other and gazed into each other's eyes, unsure of what to do next. Then, slowly and hesitantly, Heather moved forward to Hiccup and kissed him. It was a moment of surprise for Hiccup. But in that moment, he was happy Heather was there to comfort him and was happy that she was just there with him. He didn't stop her because...because...well, he didn't exactly know why but it just felt right in that moment. In that one second, he kissed her back until he realized what he actually was doing. It was exactly what he was afraid of doing; giving Heather mixed signals. And on top of that, he was cheating on his loyal girlfriend, Astrid.
