The silence filled the apartment. Corin was sleeping. It hasn't been this quite in so long. It felt almost eerie.
As I switched on the news, they were reporting the case that had delayed Liam. They had connected that crime to the other recent killings. They had named the killer. 'The Apple Snatcher' wow, they weren't long coming up with it.But of course, the media never were.
As I watched contently, I could see Liam in the background. I could tell by the way that his eyebrows were furrowed that he was stressed. He always hid his stress from us. I made a mental note to talk to him, make sure he's ok. Nobody should keep things bottled up.
At this point, I wasn't even listening to the news report.
I focused my attention to the shadow that was coming from outside the door.
It just stood there, never moved.
I crept over to the door as quietly as I could and opened the door with a burst.
What was there was something I never expected, nothing I wanted to see. I ran to the toilet and got sick while trying to call Liam. A few minutes later, Liam came bursting through the door.
