Katie's POV
I woke up to the screaming sound of my alarm clock. Not what you want to hear on a Saturday morning. I looked up at the clock. 6:30am. I hated the early shift. But it pays the bill so I can't complain. I looked outside. Still dark. And frosty. Great, I looked at myself in the mirror. My hairs a mess. I decided the easiest thing to do was shower. I hated showering on cold mornings. I quickly had a shower. After I was dry and dressed I made a cup of tea. It felt good considering the heating here isn't great. I got my coat and hat on and left the apartment. Making sure the apartment was locked and the alarm was on. Not that there is anything to steal from the apartment. I don't even have a television.
I walked down the street. I could here the frost crunching beneath my feet. The street was quite busy. I heard my phone beep from my pocket. I picked it up. Probably just my brother checking up again. He was the only one from the whole family that talked to me now. I had a big fight with them. They made it clear they didn't want to see me again. I moved from Kilkenny to here.
Kilkenny is small. So it was a big move to a big city like this.
I was right, just my brother. I looked at my phone, reading the message he sent. I text him back telling him everything was ok and I hoped he was good.
I felt my foot squish. Not the same texture as the frost. I looked back.
The frost was red. I didn't know what to do. I walked back, retracing my steps. I looked down an ally way.
I could feel my face growing pale. I didn't know what to do. I stood there frozen.
I took out my phone and frantically called the emergency number. I dialled 999 into my phone.
But who would I ask for? I decided to call for the police. I was told to stay and not to move from where I was. I rang the chip shop. Tom picked up. Tom is the manager of the chip shop.
I told him there had been an emergency.
"What sort of emergency, Katie?"
He sounded worried. I told him not to worry that I wasn't in any trouble.
I heard the sirens and hung up. It felt weird standing next to a dead body....
