One of my officers found a place for us to stay. A bungalow. Katie fell in love with it straight away. It was already furnished but she wanted to redecorate. If it kept her occupied, then I was happy. I took Corin from the Garda car. Still asleep. The child amazes me. Im pretty sure there could be a bomb and he would sleep through it. His eyes fluttered open.
'Hey buddy, go back asleep, its okay.'
He closed his eyes again and put his head on my chest. I kept him there while Katie sorted out a place for him to stay. There were beds but no blankets, so she has to sort out a temporary bed for him. She did so in a matter of 5 minutes, she's doing such a good job. I lay him down into the bed and she covered him with a blanket that looked at heavy as a duvet and gavehim his teddy.
'Thank you' she whispered.
I was confused. Her life is in danger because of me and she's thanking me?
'For what?'
'Giving me a family. You gave me Corin, then you stayed. Your an amazing man.'
It made me smile. So much negativity around her and she still makes everything positive. She left the room to make our bed for the night.
I walked around the house, it gave out a real homey vibe, like walking into your grannys house. I could live here with her forever. My own little family. I stared out at the view from the back porch. She came out and put her hands around my waist from the back. Her head nestled into my back. We stood there for at least an hour just staring. It was the best night of my life with her. New beginnings.
