Chapter 26 - Confundus
ORIANNA POV
Florence Khan confounds me. She seriously does.
I know that she knows that she had followed me to an island of hell but I expected some sort of hysteria when I showed her Master most prized Experimental Floor. Cisco didn't speak for days when Master forced him to go there but Florence Khan didn't even bat an eyelash. She just took everything in with her poker face on. I do not want to face in girl in poker. I will loose what meager money I have.
I don't know what is going on her mind and I sort of pride myself of being able to read people easily. I thought she was just this gifted genius who is rich and spoiled but.. no I don't think so. She is complex. Way complex then I can ever imagine.
"So Ori. I need a few things." Her voice entered my wondering mind. She was going around the floor with a clipboard on hand, writing. She was calming walking around those glass tubes that contained a human being inside. A human being who is awake and she isn't even disturbed.
I hate this floor. I hate it so much because I know this is where I came from. I hate seeing what I could have been if I was not chosen yet I also hate it when I think that they are better off being prisoners then what I was doing. Simply put I rather not come back to this floor but Master ordered me to so I had too.
"Orianna. Are you even listening?" Florence asked me again stopping in front of me.
"What was that?" I asked looking away from a girl with fiery hair looking at us with longing eyes.
"I need full access to your computers. Master wants me to continue what he has started but to do that I need to know what he has done. Can you ask him if I can have access to that information?" Florence asked going towards the girl with fiery hair. She stopped and stared at the girl inside. They stared at each other for a few more minutes before Florence gave a nod and wrote something on her clipboard.
"I doubt he will give you full access. He is quite paranoid when it comes to who can get inside the network here." I answered her, concentrating on looking at the floor and only at the floor.
"I can make a closed circuit network just for this floor only if he wants. I just need the materials and a few hours of access to his main computer to sort the relevant data." Florence answered. "How many are they?"
"I beg your pardon?" I asked confused.
"These tubes. How many are they?" She answered facing me.
"I didn't count, around 500?" I said. A look of horror flashed through her features before she composed herself again.
I can never tell if she is acting or not.
"Alright." Florence said with a nod. "I need to study all those information before I can start here -"
"No! Please don't!" We froze when we heard Cisco's voice. It was back at the entrance. There was a moment of stasis before I sprinted towards his voice with Florence on my heels.
We came upon General Pilak who was holding Cisco by his collar. Other workers were crowing in fear, not helping at all.
"General Pilak! What are you doing?" I shouted.
"Teaching this boy some discipline for not doing what Master asked of him!" General Pilak answered tightening his hold on Cisco who was already gasping for air.
"Please let me go. Please." Cisco gasped out.
I was frozen on the spot. I know I couldn't defy General Pilak but Cisco will die. I was still pondering on what to do when Florence stepped in towards the two and kicked General Pilak's shin. Her actions caused the General to double back in pain and let go of Cisco. Florence calmly stepped in front of Cisco as General Pilak roared in anger.
