♒ Then ♒
Being able to present at the American Music Awards (AMAs) was such a huge deal. You were the upcoming star of the teen-romance Before I Fall based off the bestselling novel by Lauren Oliver. The movie was also a huge deal and now so were you. Plus, the chance to get all dressed up in glam and walk the red carpet was always enjoyable.
"Now please welcome the star of upcoming movie Before I Fall, Y/N Y/L/N." As the announcer's voice hovered and silenced the crowd, you took a deep breath and made your way to the "x" on the stage. There wasn't really an "x," but in rehearsals, the producers and stage crew always marked an X with tape for direction. That picture of a blank stage and small marker that had been stitched into your head, was suddenly replaced with the view of cameras and a couple thousand people staring up at you in anticipation.
Now that made your fingers tingle with nerves.
The crowd clapped, easing you a bit as you took another breath, this one much more relieved that they were being welcoming with you as you stood at the mic stand. The teleprompter started scrolling with words and you were given the cue to begin
"Hello." You charmed the crowd with a friendly wave and smirk. You heard a few loud chuckled from the audience. Deep breath. "For the past few years there have been tons of bands on the rise which shows that working with a team is a crucial part in making every aspect of the work as perfect as it can be. One thing is obvious: you at least have to like each other to make it work, right?" That earned a laugh from the audience and you mentally cheered for yourself, a proud smile spreading across your face. It was kind of lame, whoever wrote the introductions was clearly giving the short end of the stick this year, but it made the crowd laugh so it was alright by you. "So here are your nominees for best band or duo." Spreading your arm out to the screen to your back right, you knew the camera wasn't on you anymore. The nominees were read off by the overhead voice once again: 5 Seconds of Summer, Maroon 5 and Fifth Harmony, all who had recent albums that wowed the critics to the fullest.
Clutching the envelope, you waited for you cue from the camera-man, award winning smile plastered on your face. "And the winner is." That cured the drumroll in the back of your mind as a silent tension fell upon the audience as you ripped open the envelope. "5 Seconds of Summer!" You cheered into the microphone, peering out to the audience, looking for the winners. They were as clear as day as they shot up from their seats, cheering, clapping and jumping up and down from excitement. They began prancing to the stage, high-fiving random artists and people along the way.
Simultaneously, they all mouthed "wow" which made you giggle when you began to greet them, giving each a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. Quietly, you stepped to the side as they accepted their award with the upmost generosity, which made you admire them all the more.
"Oh wow." Ashton, who you had been fawning over from behind, admiring his backside just as much as his front, took the reins. "This award means so much. We wouldn't be anywhere without our fans so this is just amazing. Thank you, thank you, and thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. You guys are badass." The other boys nodded next to him, each muttering their own thank you's. Silently, you grinned at how they automatically deemed him the speaker of the group. There was no hiding why either. There was a specific way the words tumbled off his lips that was incredibly intriguing. You found yourself fixated on his lips and the magical way they moved with the words he spoke.
"Hey congratulations." You smiled, your feet doing a quick pace with your heels clicking and clacking to catch up to him as the escort showed you backstage. There was a designated press area set up where the winners had their photos taken with their awards. That's where the band would be headed to next. Ashton turned toward you, his feet stopping under him so you were now standing before one another. "You guys are awesome." You added. Your words were directed towards the entire band, but for the life of you, you couldn't take your eyes off Ashton, who seemed to be a bit star struck himself.
