Have you ever felt that feeling before when you know that there is something between you and another person? Like how they say the spark the flame or a budding romance? Well that's what this summer was. I would never forget the look on his face when I walked into that open bar against the beach. I had always liked family vacations, but as soon as I laid my eyes on the wide smiled boy laughing with a group of friends at the far table. I would never forget that feeling when our eyes first met and it felt like the entire world stopped for a brief moment. As clichè as it sounds, it happened and I would never want it to skip away.
"I can't believe you have to leave tomorrow..." Luke pulled me into his lap and rested his head against my shoulder.
I picked his head up with my soft hands, gazing into his dazzling eyes, "I know." I sighed into him. His fingers began tracing unknown patterns on my bare thigh. I didn't want to continue talking in fear of interrupting the seagulls as they flew past the beach house. We watched them with hope that two would fall in love like we have this summer.
Even if it had only been for a moment, when our eyes met in that family own bar restaurant, it fel like so much more than that. I didn't want to leave tomorrow, it was actually the last think on my mind, but my family was done visiting my great aunt at her house right on the beach. It was a miracle that we had even stayed as long as we did. Our family vacations never ceased to pass one week, but for some reason my parents decided to make this one extended and I was so thankful that they did.
The patterns Luke was drawing on my leg were beginning to put me right to sleep. We could lay here for hours and do nothing but this. And although we had only known each other for this short amount of time, I felt like I knew him for eighty years. A yawn slipped past Luke's lips and I felt the air against my shoulders.
"Let's go down to the beach, hmm?" I leant up from his grip, immediately missing the comfort.
Luke chuckled, "Why can't we just stay here?" He pouted his bottom lip.
"C'mon! Please!" I mimicked him, dragging out my pleads. I grabbed his hands and pulled him up from the chair. "If you can catch me then I'll give you a present." I giggled at him.
His eyebrow raised and he smirked, "I better like this present."
I began skipping away, hopping onto the sand. I turned back around and yelled, "You'll have to catch me to find out!" I laughed out loud running all the way down the beach. The scene looked straight out of a romance movie where nothing bad happens, but the tragedy in this story was fast approaching. I reached the water and turned back around to see that Luke was already a few steps away from me.
"Eep!" I squealed when he reached me, scooping me up in his arms and spinning me around. His arms were right around my waist as mine were around his neck. Loud giggles erupted from my throat and I bent my legs to avoid getting hit with the water. That didn't stop Luke from feeling the cold liquid against his feet.
"Ahh cold cold cold." He yelled running fast away from the water and into dry sand. I laughed once more at him and he set me down, his arms still right around my waist. I looked up at him, playing with the hairs on the back of his head. "Well," he began smirking, "what's my present?"
I blushed, nibbling on the bottom of my lip, "You have to wait until tonight."
"Tonight? Why? What's tonight?" He wondered.
"Just wait and see! Haha. Just meet me here later tonight after dinner." I proposed, keeping my eyes locked with his, my voice turning into a whisper.
He groaned, leaning his forehead against mine, "Ugh, Y/N, you're officially going to be the death of me."
"I guess I'll take it as a compliment." I chuckled against his lips.
