I had contemplated the rest of that day if I should tell Sophie the truth between me and Ashton. Yeah, we were friends again, but what was the guarantee she could resist telling Luke? They had seemingly gotten a lot closer than I had originally expected so maybe she was changing also.
It was Thursday, the very first Thursday since we've had our fight and made up, which meant I'd be expecting her at any moment. I wasn't as excited as times before because I knew the night would only lead to question after question and I would have to make up some story if I couldn't ball up and just tell her the truth. That was another problem I had with myself, I just always told the damn truth. It had to do with my morals, an honest person is a good person, right?
This time I left the door unlocked and got a movie ready so I wouldn't have to get up and we wouldn't have to rummage through my collection. When she knocked, I yelled at her to come in.
"Leaving the locks off the door now are we?" Was her first and only comment as she strut through the door and kicked off her shoes. She sat next to me on the couch. I had ignored the comment, afraid that I'd spill my secrets as soon as I opened my mouth. I had a few movies set on the small coffee table and figured I'd let her choose this time. "We are so watching this one." She snatched up Pitch Perfect and went to put it in. I watched the opening credits and waited for her to speak first. Which she did, not suprising. "Y/N will tell me please?" I knew she was referring to. When she had texted me earlier after seeing each other on the street, I played coy, only replying a question mark.
"There's nothing to tell." I told her.
"Puuhhhleaaaase." She dragged out the word, "I've known you for how long now, i know when something's up with you. You're hanging out with Ashton? Oh come on!"
"Come on what? Soph I promise there's nothing to tell. We're just friends. That's it." It didn't matter how much I tried to emphasize that lie, she could see right through it like a piece of glass.
She sighed, not saying anything else and I hoped she would drop it and just enjoy the movie.
That didn't happen though.
Right at the part where Becca and Jesse first work together at the radio station she started back up. It was never going to end, the questions and pokin for the right answer until she got one.
"You haven't been close friends with a boy since that kid in sophomore year." She pointed out.
"But there is nothing!" I tried to laugh it off but she was relentless and I was honestly getting tired of it.
"I'm not kidding Y/N! Tell me right now!" She sounded like she was joking but the look in her eye would beg to differ.
"Fine! You wanna know so bad: me and Ashton are friends with benefits. We just have sex and that's it." A rush of pure shock took over her body. I regretted spilling my secret but if it was going to get her to shut up, I'd do anything.
But she really didn't say anything. Her mouth parted slightly like she was going to speak when really she looked like she wanted to yell at me or something. I felt like I had just told my mom I wrecked her car and she was going to ground me. I turned back to the movie, staying focused on Fat Amy and the Bardon Bella's for the time being.
"Are you kidding me?" Sophie boomed, her voice bursting out with all the force in her small being. "Friends with benefits?!" I heard the smile on her face as she needed to confirm it for herself. When I looked at her, she was smirking. "What's it like?" She widened her eyes like a kid waiting for their mom to give them more candy.
"Really? That's your question after vocally torturing me for 25 minutes?"
"Well this is a big deal! Tell me, does he have a big...you know..."
"Sophie-no! I am not sharing that information with you! I wasn't even supposed to tell anyone!" I groaned, rubbing my face with my tired hands.
"Luke's is nice." Immediately my eyebrows furrowed.
"What the hell? Nice? I don't think that's how you're supposed to describe it?"
"Well that's how I did! Now I told you now you have to tell me!" She was annoyingly relentless.
"Sophie no." She stared at me. Any hopes to watch the movie were now non existent.
"Well fine then but just be careful." Sophie was changing moods faster than a horse trying to win a horse race.
"Of what? It's harmless I promise." I could tell her a hundred times but I don't think that would make a difference.
"Well you remember that time I tried to do the whole friends with benefits thing with that one guy."
"Do you even remember his name?" I chuckled.
"No. I don't know I think it was Evan or something. But that's not the point." She shook her head vigorously, "Being friends with benefits can totally ruin your relationship. Mine lasted for a month, tops, then things blew way out of proportion."
"But Sophie I'm not you. Plus, that was back in college, we've grown since then. I didn't know Ashton then, but he's already proved to be more mature than half of the guys I've known."
"He's still a guy Y/N." Sophie implied.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I inquired for her to go on.
"Guys are always the same, they just want sex, nothing more. What do you think will happen when he gets tired of you? He'll stop talking to you and then you'll be crushed." Her words of wisdom, while smart for some, I didn't think they applied to me.
"Ashton's different. This whole thing is different." I shook my head.
"Suit yourself, but don't say I didn't warn you."
