Symbolism

- The First Spinjitzu Masters, Izanagi's, personal symbol was the Lóng with the face of a Nian, representing his dual capabilities and heritage. This symbol is often simplified to just the dragon.

- Golden Cedar, a tree with white bark and golden-yellow leaves year-round, is the symbol strength, wisdom, protection, and of luxury, leading to their 'Near Extinct' status, decreed by the Western Ninjaoan Conservation Efforts (W.N.C.E.). Very few can be found in the wild, with the largest populations being found in the grove by the Monastery and by the Royal Palace.

- Each Element has its own symbol and colors associated, whether due to myths or legends, or from association:

Yang - Dragon; Gold, Golden Yellow

- Dragons, in Ninjago, are seen as creatures of intelligence, power, but above all, goodness

- The power is gold so its color symbolism is directly associated

Yin - Oni; Lavender, Black, Pink

- While relatively unknown, Oni do star in a few older myths, and are always creatures of mindless destruction

- Much like Yang, the power itself is shown to be a mix of black with flashes of lavender and pink within, so its color symbolism is directly associated

Nether - Valravn; Purple, Black

- The Valravn is an unknown tale within Ninjago, brought there by Thyia, representing a darker side to intelligence and the deaths upon a battlefield

- The color purple comes directly from the element, but the association with black is due to Nether's ties to death and the unknown

Aether - Nine-tailed Fox; Silver, Green

- The Nine-tailed Fox is a creature more known in the area where Reader grew up, representing intelligence, wisdom, and protection

- The color silver comes directly from the element, but the association with green is due to the colors modern association with life-giving and energy

Creation - Lòng; Gold, White, Yellow

- The Lòng is the symbol of Creation due to the FSM's personal symbol

- The color gold comes directly from the element, but the white and yellow come from mythology centered around the creation of the sun

Destruction - Nian; Black, Dark Purple, Grey

- The Nian is the symbol of Destruction due to the FSM's personal symbol

- The colors black and dark purple come directly from the element, but the grey comes from its association with ashes, decay, and smoke.

Energy - Wyrm; Green

- Lloyd Garmadon is the first and only Green Ninja, meaning he chose his symbol to be the wyrm due to its actual symbolism relating to destruction, its similarity to the snakes, and because it is technically a dragon

- The Green symbolism is actually at odds with its original meaning relating to the Cursed Realm, but is now more commonly associated with growth, renewal, and vitality

Fire - Lion; Red, Orange

- The Lion has historically been the symbol of the Fire ninja, due to its long association with the suns scorching heat and power

- Red and orange are associated with the element itself

Earth - Gorilla: Black, Brown, Orange

- The Gorilla has historically been the symbol of the Earth ninja, due to its long association with strength and wisdom
